Unbelievers

Muslims and Unbelievers

Responsibility

O believers! You are responsible for your own souls. Those who stray cannot harm you if you are guided. To Allah is your return, and He will inform you of what you did. 5:105

Mocking Muslims

The wicked used to mock the believers, 83:29

When they returned to their people, they laughed. 83:31

And when they saw them, they said, "These are truly lost!" 83:32

Yet they were not sent as guardians over them. 83:33

But today, the believers will laugh at the disbelievers, 83:34

Reclining on couches, gazing around. 83:35

Have the disbelievers been repaid for what they did? 83:36

Unbelievers among Muslims

Some of us have submitted, and others have gone astray. Those who submit have chosen the path of wisdom. 72:14

But those who deviate will be fuel for Hell.” 72:15

The believers will say, “The losers are those who lost themselves and their families on the Day of Resurrection.”  42:45

Do not obey the disbelievers or the hypocrites, ignore their harm, and place your trust in Allah. 33:48

Those who harm believing men and women unjustly bear the burden of slander and clear sin. 33:58

Don’t Commit Shirk

Turn to Him in devotion, be mindful of him, establish prayer, and do not be among the polytheists, 30:31

Those who divided their religion and became sects, each group rejoicing in what they have. 30:32

Don’t be deceived

But their schemes are made appealing to them, and they are barred from the path. 13:33

Do not be deceived by the movement of disbelievers across the land. 3:196

It is only a brief enjoyment. 3:197

Many nations before you have passed away. Travel the earth and see the fate of those who denied the truth. 3:137

List of Wrongs

Do not obey every contemptible oath-monger, 68:10

A slanderer, a gossip-spreader, 68:11

One who blocks good, transgresses bounds, and is steeped in sin, 68:12

Harsh and coarse, and on top of that, of questionable lineage, 68:13

Simply because he possesses wealth and sons. 68:14

When Our signs are recited to him, he says, “These are tales of the ancients.” 68:15

We will brand him on the snout. 68:16

Do not take Unbelievers as Allies

You see many of them befriending those who reject faith. Evil is what they have sent ahead for themselves, earning Allah’s wrath. 5:80

Have you not seen those who befriended a people whom Allah is angry with? They are neither of you nor of them, and they knowingly swear false oaths. 58:14

Take none as allies except Allah, His Messenger, and the believers? 9:16

You who believe, do not take as allies those with whom Allah is angry. They have despaired of the Hereafter just as the disbelievers have despaired of those in the graves. 60:13

The disbelievers are allies to one another. If you do not act likewise, there will be turmoil and great corruption in the land. 8:73

Thus, We make some wrongdoers allies of others because of what they earn. 6:129

They will have no allies to help them besides Allah. Whoever Allah allows to stray will find no way. 42:46

They will not benefit you against Allah in the least. The wrongdoers are allies of one another. 45:19

They wish you would disbelieve as they have, so you would be alike. Do not take them as allies until they migrate for Allah’s cause. But if they turn hostile, seize them and fight them wherever you find them. Do not take them as allies or supporters. 4:89

Angels

Angels not sent with Muhammad

They ask, “Why wasn’t an angel sent down to him?” But had We sent an angel, their fate would have been sealed, leaving them no chance to repent. 6:8

Those who do not expect to meet Us say, “If only angels were sent down to us, or we could see our Lord.” They have grown arrogant within themselves and have become excessively defiant. 25:21

And if We had sent an angel, We would have made him appear as a man, further confusing them in their doubts. 6:9

Say: “It was sent down by the One who knows the secrets of the heavens and the earth. 25:6

And they say, “What kind of messenger is this, who eats food and walks in the marketplaces? If only an angel had been sent down with him to warn alongside him, 25:7

Or a treasure had been dropped upon him, or he had a garden from which he could eat.” The wrongdoers say, “You are only following a man under a spell.” 25:8

See how they invent comparisons for you, they have gone astray and cannot find a way. 25:9

Whoever opposes Allah, His angels, His messengers, Gabriel, and Michael, then Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers. 2:98

We have sent down clear signs, and none reject them except the defiantly rebellious. 2:99

If you falter after clear guidance has come to you. 2:209

Allah and Unbelievers

Favour of Allah

Allah has given you spouses from among yourselves and granted you children and grandchildren, and He has provided you with good things. Will they then believe in falsehood and deny Allah’s favours? 16:72

Have they not seen that We made Mecca a sanctuary, while people around them are being taken away? Will they still believe in falsehood and deny Allah’s blessings? 29:67

Allah's Dislike

When they turn away, they strive to spread corruption on the earth, destroying crops and livestock. 2:205

They conceal their wrongdoing from people, but they cannot hide from Allah. He is with them when they conspire at night with words He disapproves of. 4:108

No Harm to Allah

Do not grieve over those who rush toward disbelief. They cannot harm Allah in the least. He does not intend to grant them any share in the Hereafter. 3:176

So don’t let their words grieve you. 36:76

Let not the disbelievers think they have escaped; indeed, they will not prevail. 8:59

Whoever does not respond to the caller of Allah will not escape on earth, and he will have no protectors besides Him. They are in clear error.” 11:20, 46:32

Have you not seen those who exchanged Allah’s favour for disbelief and led their people to ruin? 14:28

Those who trade faith for disbelief will not harm Allah in the least. 3:177

They are those who trade guidance for misguidance, yet their bargain brings no profit, nor are they rightly guided. 2:16

Allah Mocks

Allah mocks them and lets them wander blindly in their defiance 2:15

Guide

Whomever Allah wills to guide, He expands their heart to submission. But whomever He wills to leave astray, He makes their chest tight and constricted, as if they were climbing into the sky. Thus, Allah places defilement upon those who do not believe. 6:125

No soul can believe except by Allah’s will, and He places defilement upon those who do not use reason. 10:100

Punishment

Man was created impatient. I will show you My signs. Do not be hasty. 21:37

They say, “When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?” 21:38

If only the disbelievers knew that when the Fire cannot be warded off from their faces or backs, and they receive no help, 21:39

It will come upon them suddenly, leaving them unable to turn it back or delay it. 21:40

“So that Allah may erase the blessing of those who defy the truth. 3:141

So do not fear people, fear Me. 5:44

Worldly Life

They know only the surface of worldly life, but they are heedless of the Hereafter. 30:7

Have they not reflected within themselves? Allah did not create the heavens and the earth, and all between them, except with truth and for a set time. Yet many people deny the meeting with their Lord. 30:8

Allah did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 30:9

Adversaries

But many are also deserving of punishment. Whoever Allah disgraces, none can honour. Allah does what He wills. 22:18

These are two opposing groups who dispute about their Lord. 22:19

Inventing a lie

Say, “Had Allah willed, I would not have recited it to you, nor would He have made it known to you. I have lived among you for a lifetime before this, do you not understand?” 10:16

Say, “Have you considered the provisions Allah has sent down for you, which you have divided into lawful and unlawful?” Say, “Did Allah permit this, or do you invent lies against Him?” 10:59

But the disbelievers fabricated lies about Him. Most of them lack understanding. 5:103

See how they fabricate lies against Allah? That alone is enough for a clear sin. 4:50

Who is more unjust than one who fabricates lies about Allah or denies His signs? 6:21, 10:17, 11:18

Who does greater wrong than one who fabricates lies about Allah while being called to submit? 61:7

They want to extinguish Allah’s light with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light, even if the disbelievers detest it. 61:8

Whoever fabricates lies against Allah after this, they are the true wrongdoers. 3:94

They will be presented before their Lord, and witnesses will say, 11:18

Those who turn others away from Allah’s path and seek to make it crooked, they are the ones who deny the Hereafter. 11:19

How are you turned away? 10:32, 39:6, 40:69

“Has he fabricated a lie about Allah, or is he possessed?” 34:8

He’s just a man inventing lies about Allah; we won’t believe him.” 23:38

Have they not seen what lies before them and behind them of the sky and the earth? If We will, We could cause the earth to swallow them or the sky to fall upon them. Surely in this is a sign for every servant who turns back to Allah. 34:9

By Allah, you will be questioned about your fabrications. 16:56

Let the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter incline toward their words, let them be pleased with them, and let them commit what they will. 6:113

Levelling the Land

We know best what they say, when the most reasonable among them will say, “You only stayed for a day.” 20:104

They ask you about the mountains, say, “My Lord will scatter them as dust.” 20:105

He will leave the earth flat and barren, 20:106

With no curves or unevenness. 20:107

On that Day, they will follow the caller without deviation, and all voices will be hushed before the Most Merciful; only whispers will be heard. 20:108

Private Conversation

Whenever a new reminder comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in mockery. 21:2

Their hearts are distracted, and the wrongdoers whisper among themselves, “Is this not just a human like you? Will you fall for magic while you see it clearly?” 21:3

Their hearts are distracted, and the wrongdoers whisper among themselves, “Is this not just a human like you? Will you fall for magic while you see it clearly?” 21:4

But if they turn away, say, “I have warned you plainly. I do not know whether what you are promised is near or far.” 21:109

Whenever a new reminder comes to them from their Lord, they listen to it in mockery. 58:7

“He knows what is spoken aloud and what you conceal.” 21:110

Do they think We do not hear their whispers and secret talks? Our messengers are recording. 43:80

They swore by Allah with their strongest oaths that if a warner came to them, they would be more guided than any other nation. But when a warner came, it only increased their aversion, 35:42

Out of arrogance in the land and plotting evil. But evil plotting only traps its authors. Are they waiting for anything but the fate of those before them? 35:43

Have they not travelled the earth and seen the fate of those before them, who were stronger than them? 35:44

They marvel that a warner has come from among them, saying, “This is a deceiving magician.” 38:4

We know best what they listen to when they secretly conspire, the wrongdoers say, “You follow only a bewitched man.” 17:47

Do they not know that Allah knows their secrets and whispers? 9:78

Have you not seen those who were forbidden secret meetings yet persist in them, whispering about sin, hostility, and defiance of the Messenger? 58:8

Secret meetings are only from Satan, meant to grieve the believers. Yet he cannot harm them unless Allah permits. Let the believers trust in Allah. 58:10

There is little good in their secret talks 4:114

Astray

But whoever turns away from Allah, his angels, his books, his messengers, and the Last Day, has drifted into a deep and distant ruin. 4:136

Those who reject faith and turn others away from Allah’s path have strayed far. 4:167

Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. 14:4

Do you wish to guide those whom Allah has led astray? Whoever Allah misguides, you will find no way for them. 4:88, 39:36, 40:33

Whoever goes astray does so to his own loss. You are not their keeper. 39:41

Even if you long for their guidance, Allah does not guide those He leaves to stray, and they will have no helpers. 16:37, 30:29

Whoever trades faith for disbelief has surely strayed from the right path. 2:108

But whoever turns away has strayed far.” 5:12

Or do you think most of them hear or understand? They are like cattle, no, they are even more astray. 25:44

See how they compare you to falsehoods, but they are lost and cannot find the way. 17:48

Postponing sacred months is an act of disbelief that leads people further astray. They make a month sacred one year and profane it another, to match the number of months Allah made sacred, thus permitting what Allah has forbidden. Their evil deeds seem fair to them. 9:37

Whoever Allah leaves to stray, you will find no way for them. 4:143, 13:33

Inherit

Has he looked into the unseen, or has he taken a promise from the Most Merciful? 19:78

And We will inherit from him what he speaks of, and he will come to Us alone. 19:80

Introduction

Creation

He is the One who created you; some of you deny, and some believe. 64:2

Persisting in great wrongdoing. 56:46

It is We who created you, will you not believe? 56:57

Consider the seed you sow, 56:58

Is it you who brings it to life, or is it We who create? 56:59

You have seen the first creation. Will you not reflect? 56:62

Consider the seeds you plant, 56:63

Is it you who makes them grow, or is it We who bring them to life? 56:64

If We willed, We could turn them to dust, and you would be left in despair, 56:65

Saying, “We are ruined, 56:66

Saying, “We have lost everything.” 56:67

Consider the water you drink, 56:68

Is it you who sends it down from the clouds, or is it We who pour it forth? 56:69

If We willed, We could make it bitter. Will you not be grateful? 56:70

Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 80:17

From what did He create him? 80:18

From a mere drop, He shaped him. 80:19

Then He set his path. 80:20

So set your face toward the true faith, Allah’s natural way upon which He created humanity. There is no change in Allah’s creation. This is the upright religion, but most people do not know. 30:30

Creator

Say, “Do you truly deny the One who created the earth in two days 41:9

O humanity, what has deceived you about your generous Lord? 82:6

The One who created you, shaped you, and balanced you, 82:7

Fashioning you in whatever form He willed. 82:8

If you ask them, “Who sends down rain from the sky and revives the earth after its death?” they will surely say, “Allah.” Say, “Praise be to Allah.” But most of them do not understand. 29:63

One Community

Humanity was once a single community, but they later differed. Had it not been for a prior decree from your Lord, their disputes would have been settled. 10:19

They did not divide except after knowledge had come to them, out of rivalry among themselves. Had it not been for a decree from your Lord, judgment would have been settled between them. Indeed, those who inherited the Scripture after them remain in grave doubt about it. 42:14

Had your Lord willed, all humanity would have been united in faith. But they continue to differ, 11:118

Except those upon whom your Lord has shown mercy. For this, He created them, 11:119

Thus, We have sent you to a community, just as We sent messengers before, though they reject the Most Merciful. Say, “He is my Lord; there is no Allah but Him. In Him I place my trust, and to Him is my return.” 13:30

To you, yours; to me, mine.

Say: O disbelievers! 109:1

I do not worship what you worship, 109:2

Nor do you worship what I worship. 109:3

I will never worship what you worship, 109:4

Nor will you ever worship what I worship. 109:5

To you is your religion, and to me is mine. 109:6

And when they hear idle talk, they turn away, saying, “We have our deeds, and you have yours. Peace be upon you, we do not seek the ignorant.” 28:55

You cannot guide those you love, but it is Allah who leads whom He wills. 28:56

They say, “If we follow guidance with you, we will be snatched from our land.” Have We not established them in a secure sanctuary, to which fruits of all kinds are brought as provision from Us? But most of them do not know. 28:57

And how many towns have We destroyed that were ungrateful for their prosperity? Here are their dwellings, uninhabited after them, except for a few. We were the inheritors. 28:58

Your Lord never destroys a town until He sends a messenger to its people, reciting Our signs to them. And We never destroy a town unless its people are unjust. 28:59

Corrupt women are for corrupt men, and corrupt men for corrupt women. 24:26

Mankind

Indeed, man is ungrateful to his Lord, 14:34, 100:6

And he himself bears witness to this. 100:7

His love for wealth is intense. 100:8

Does he not know that when the graves are overturned, 100:9

And the secrets of hearts are laid bare, 100:10

Do Not Question

O believers! Do not ask about matters which, if revealed, may trouble you. If you ask while the Quran is being sent down, they will be made clear. 5:101

Some before you asked such questions, then rejected the answers. 5:102

Allah did not ordain practices like Bahirah, Sa’ibah, Wasilah, or Ham, 5:103

Leave Them

They plot their schemes, 86:15

And I plan Mine. 86:16

So, give the disbelievers some time, grant them a brief respite. 86:17

Knowledge

Have you seen the one who turns away, 53:33

Gives a little, then withholds? 53:34

Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees? 53:35

Or has he not been informed of what was in the scrolls of Moses, 53:36

And of Abraham, who fulfilled his trust, 53:37

That no soul bears the burden of another, 53:38

If you disbelieve, Allah has no need of you, yet He does not approve of ingratitude from His servants. But if you are grateful, He is pleased with you. No soul bears the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return, and He will inform you of what you used to do. 39:7

And that man will have only what he strives for, 53:39

They have no knowledge of this; they follow only guesswork. And guesswork is no substitute for truth. 10:36, 53:28

This World

Enjoying Life

Indeed, We created man in hardship. 90:4

Does he think no one has power over him? 90:5

He boasts, “I have squandered great wealth!” 90:6

Does he think no one sees him? 90:7

Have We not given him eyes, 90:8

A tongue and lips, 90:9

And shown him two paths? 90:10

Yet he has not taken the steep path. 90:11

But those who reject Our signs, they are the companions of the left, 90:19

This World

Some say, ‘Our Lord, grant us in this world,’ but they will have no share in the Hereafter. 2:200

“And I do not know, perhaps this delay is a trial for you and a brief enjoyment.” 21:111

They say, “There is nothing but our life in this world. We die and we live, and nothing destroys us but time.” Yet they have no knowledge of this, they only speculate. 45:24

Those who prefer this fleeting life over the Hereafter, who turn others away from Allah’s path and seek to distort it, these are far astray. 14:3

Among people are those whose words about worldly life impress you, and they even call upon Allah as a witness to what is in their hearts, yet they are the fiercest in opposition. 2:204

Were it not that mankind would become one community, We would have made for those who disbelieve in the Most Merciful roofs of silver for their houses, and stairways upon which they ascend. 43:33

And doors for their houses, and couches upon which they recline. 43:34

And ornaments of gold. Yet all this is but the enjoyment of worldly life, the Hereafter with your Lord is for the righteous. 43:35

But you prefer the life of this world, 87:16

While the Hereafter is better and everlasting. 87:17

This is in the earlier scriptures, 87:18

The scriptures of Abraham and Moses. 87:19

But when He rescues them, they return to their defiance on earth. O humanity, your defiance only harms yourselves. Enjoy the life of this world briefly, then your return is to Us, and We will inform you of what you used to do. 10:23

So be patient with your Lord’s decree, and do not obey any sinner or ungrateful one among them. 76:24

These people love the fleeting life and leave behind a heavy Day. 76:27

But no! You love this fleeting world, 75:20

And you neglect the Hereafter. 75:21

But they split their unity, each group rejoicing in what they had. 23:53

So, leave them in their confusion for a while. 23:54

Do they think that by giving them wealth and children, 23:55

We are rushing to reward them with good? No, they do not perceive. 23:56

“Eat and enjoy yourselves for a little while, you are truly evildoers.” 77:46

Allah extends provision abundantly or restricts it for whomever He wills. Yet they delight in worldly life, though compared to the Hereafter, it is fleeting enjoyment. 13:26

To test them through it. But whoever turns away from their Lord will be cast into an ever-growing torment. 72:17

Adornments

Whatever you have been given is only the enjoyment of this worldly life and its adornment. But what is with Allah is better and everlasting. Will you not understand? 28:60

Do not turn your eyes away from them, desiring the splendour of worldly life. 18:28

Know that this worldly life is but play, amusement, adornment, boasting among yourselves, and rivalry in wealth and children. This life is nothing but a fleeting illusion. 57:20

Wealth and children are adornments of this life, but lasting good deeds are better in reward and hope. 18:46

Those who desire this worldly life and its glitter, We will fully reward them here, and they will not be deprived. 11:15

The Qualities of Unbelievers

Misleading

They have no knowledge of this, they follow only guesswork. And guesswork is no substitute for truth. 53:28

If you obey most of those on earth, they will lead you astray from Allah’s path. They follow nothing but assumptions and do nothing but speculate. 6:116

Your Lord knows best who strays from His path, and He knows best who is rightly guided. 6:117

Not Equal

Is one who believes like one who sins? They are not equal. 5:100, 9:19, 32:18, 59:20

The blind and the seeing are not equal, nor are those who believe and do good equal to those who do evil. Yet you seldom reflect. 35:19, 40:58

Nor are darkness and light. 35:20

Nor shade and scorching heat. 35:21

Nor are the living and the dead alike. 35:22

Those who remain seated while others strive in Allah’s cause are not equal, except those with valid excuses. Allah has elevated those who struggle with their wealth and lives above those who stay behind. 4:95

Those who gave and fought before the victory are not equal to those who came after; 57:10

Good and evil are not equal 41:34

Say, “The impure and the pure are not equal, even if the abundance of impurity impresses you 5:100

The people of the Fire and the people of Paradise are not equal.  59:20

Spreading Immorality

Those who love to see immorality spread among the believers will face a painful punishment in this world and the next. Allah knows, and you do not. 24:19

Were it not for Allah’s grace and mercy, and that He is Compassionate and Merciful… 24:20

Not Friends

Had We willed, We could have paralyzed them in their places, leaving them unable to move forward or backward. 17:73

They nearly provoked you to drive you out of the land, but had they succeeded, they would not have remained there long. 17:76

Believers should not take disbelievers as allies instead of fellow believers. Whoever does so has no bond with Allah, unless it is to protect yourselves from harm. 3:28

They seek honour among disbelievers rather than believers; do they not realize that all honour belongs to Allah alone? 4:139

O believers, if you obey those who disbelieve, they will turn you back, and you will become losers. 3:149

O believers! Do not take disbelievers as allies instead of the faithful. Do you wish to give Allah a clear reason to punish you? 4:144

O believers, do not take outsiders as close allies; they will spare no effort to corrupt you. They wish for your downfall. Hatred has already been revealed from their mouths, but what they conceal in their hearts is far worse 3:118

You love them, but they do not love you. You believe in the entire Scripture, yet when they meet you, they say, ‘We believe,’ but when they are alone, they bite their fingertips in rage. Say, ‘Die in your anger! 3:119

If good comes to you, it grieves them; but if harm befalls you, they rejoice. Yet if you remain patient and mindful of Allah, their schemes will not harm you. 3:120

Ridicule

When the disbelievers see you, they mock, saying, “Is this the one who speaks against our gods?” Yet they reject the mention of the Most Merciful. 21:36

It has already been revealed to you in the Book: when you hear Allah’s signs being denied and mocked, do not sit with those who do so unless they turn to another topic; otherwise, you will be like them. 4:140

Blessed is He who, if He wills, can grant you better than that, gardens beneath which rivers flow, and palaces. 25:10

Say: “My Lord cares not for you if you do not call upon Him. But since you have denied, the punishment is inevitable.” 25:77

The messenger said, “My Lord, help me, they’ve called me a liar.” 23:39

O believers! Do not take as allies those who mock your faith, whether from the People of the Book or the disbelievers. 5:57

We send messengers only as bearers of good news and warnings, but the disbelievers argue with falsehood to undermine the truth. They mock My signs and what they are warned about. 18:56

They dismissed the truth when it came to them, but soon they will face the consequences of their mockery. 6:5

So, the evil of their deeds overtook them, and what they mocked surrounded them. 16:34

Yet you marvel, while they mock. 37:12

And when reminded, they pay no heed. 37:13

And when they see a sign, they ridicule it. 37:14

Yet if they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Continuous magic.” 54:2

They denied and followed their desires, but every matter reaches its conclusion. 54:3

They say, “This is nothing but obvious magic. 37:15

Regret

The wrongdoer will bite his hands, saying, “If only I had taken the path with the Messenger! 25:27

Woe to me! If only I had not taken so-and-so as a friend! 25:28

And they say, “When we are lost into the earth, will we really be resurrected?” No, they deny the meeting with their Lord. 32:10

If only you could see the guilty, bowing their heads before their Lord: “Our Lord, we have seen and heard, send us back, and we will do good. We are now convinced.” 32:12

And those who had wished for his status the day before said, “Indeed, Allah extends and restricts provision as He wills. Had Allah not been gracious to us, He could have made the earth swallow us too. Indeed, the disbelievers never succeed.” 28:82

So turn away from them. On the Day the caller summons them to something dreadful, 54:6

They will emerge from their graves with humbled eyes, like scattered locusts, 54:7

Rushing toward the caller, the disbelievers will say, “This is a difficult day.” 54:8

Planned Evil

Do those who plot evil feel secure that Allah will not cause the earth to swallow them or that punishment will not come upon them from where they least expect? 16:45

Or that He will not seize them while they go about their affairs, and they will have no escape? 16:46

Or that He will not take them gradually? 16:47

Analogies Regarding Unbelievers

Fire

Their example is like one who kindles a fire, and as it illuminates their surroundings, Allah takes away their light, leaving them in darkness, unable to see.  2:17

Ashes

The deeds of those who reject their Lord are like ashes scattered by the wind on a stormy day, no power to reclaim what was lost. That is the farthest straying. 14:18

Thunder Storm

Or like a storm from the sky, filled with darkness, thunder, and lightning. They thrust their fingers into their ears against the thunderclaps, fearing death. 2:19

The lightning nearly snatches away their sight; whenever it flashes, they walk in its glow, but when darkness falls, they stand still. If Allah willed, He could take away their hearing and sight. 2:20

Rain

It is like rain that delights the farmer, then dries and withers, turning to dust. In the Hereafter, there is severe punishment or forgiveness and pleasure from Allah. This life is nothing but a fleeting illusion. 57:20

Mosquito

Allah does not hesitate to set forth an example, even of a mosquito or something smaller. The believers recognize it as truth from their Lord, while the disbelievers question its meaning. Through such examples, Allah guides many 2:26

Building

Is one who builds on the foundation of mindfulness of Allah and His pleasure better, or one who builds on the brink of a crumbling cliff, which collapses into the Fire of Hell? 9:109

The structure they built will remain a source of doubt in their hearts until their hearts are torn apart. 9:110

Mirage

But those who disbelieve, their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one thinks it is water, but when he reaches it, he finds nothing. Instead, he finds Allah there, who settles his account. 24:39

Darkness

Or like darkness in a deep sea, covered by waves upon waves, topped by clouds, layers of darkness, one above another. If one stretches out his hand, he can barely see it. For whomever Allah does not grant light, there is no light. 24:40

Shouting

The example of those who reject faith is like one who calls out to cattle; they hear nothing but sounds and cries. Deaf, dumb, and blind, they do not comprehend. 2:171

A Slave Owned by Two Men

Allah sets forth an example: A man enslaved by many masters, each pulling him in a different direction, and another man devoted to one master. Are they equal? Praise be to Allah, but most people do not understand. 39:29

You will die, and they will die. 39:30

Two Men with Two Gardens

Present to them the parable of two men: We gave one two gardens of grapevines, surrounded by date palms, with crops growing between them. 18:32

Both gardens yielded their produce without fail, and We caused a river to flow between them. 18:33

He had abundant wealth and said to his companion while conversing, “I am wealthier than you and have a greater following.” 18:34

He entered his garden, wronging himself, and said, “I do not think this will ever perish.” 18:35

“Nor do I think the Hour will come. But even if I am returned to my Lord, I will surely find something better than this.” 18:36

His companion replied, “Do you disbelieve in the One who created you from dust, then from a drop, then fashioned you into a man?” 18:37

“If only, when you entered your garden, you had said, ‘This is what Allah has willed; there is no power except with Allah.’ Though you see me with less wealth and children than you,” 18:39

“Perhaps my Lord will grant me something better than your garden, and send upon yours a calamity from the sky, leaving it barren.” 18:40

“Or its water may sink deep into the earth, and you will never be able to retrieve it.” 18:41

His wealth was destroyed, and he wrung his hands over what he had spent on it, as it lay in ruins. He said, “If only I had not associated anyone with my Lord!” 18:42

He had no supporters to help him against Allah, nor could he save himself. 18:43

There, authority belongs only to Allah, the True. He is best in reward and best in outcome. 18:44

The Messengers and the City

Give them the parable of the town, when messengers came to it. 36:13

We sent two, but they rejected them, so We reinforced them with a third. They said, “We are messengers to you.” 36:14

They replied, “You’re just humans like us. The Merciful hasn’t sent anything; you’re only lying.” 36:15

The messengers said, “Our Lord knows we’ve truly been sent to you. 36:1

Our duty is only to deliver the message clearly.” 36:17

They said, “We see a bad omen in you. If you don’t stop, we’ll stone you, and a painful punishment will touch you from us.” 36:18

They replied, “Your omen is with yourselves. Is it because you were reminded? No, you are a people who go too far.” 36:19

Then a man came running from the farthest part of the city. He said, “My people, follow the messengers! 36:20

Follow those who ask for no payment and are rightly guided. 36:21

Why shouldn’t I worship the One who created me, and to whom you’ll all return? 36:22

I believe in your Lord, so listen to me!” 36:25

It was said, “Enter Paradise.” He said, “If only my people knew, 36:26

How my Lord has forgiven me and made me one of the honoured.” 36:27

After him, We didn’t send down any army from heaven to his people, nor would We ever do so. 36:28

It was just one blast, and suddenly, they were extinguished. 36:29

Oh, what a loss for humanity! No messenger ever came to them without being mocked. 36:30

Have they not seen how many generations We destroyed before them, who never returned? 36:31

Yet all of them will be brought before Us. 36:32

Do not be like the woman who unravels her thread after spinning it tightly, using your oaths deceitfully to gain advantage over others. Allah only tests you through this, and He will clarify for you on the Day of Judgment what you used to dispute. 16:92

Hypocrites

Pretending to Believe Muhammad

They say, “We believe in Allah and the Messenger, and we obey.” But then a group among them turns away; these are not true believers. 24:47

When they are called to Allah and His Messenger to judge between them, some turn away. 24:48

But if the truth is in their favour, they come willingly. 24:49

Is there a sickness in their hearts? Or do they doubt? Or do they fear that Allah and His Messenger will be unjust to them? No, it is they who are the wrongdoers. 24:50

When Allah alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink in aversion. But when others are mentioned besides Him, they rejoice. 39:45

When the hypocrites come to you, they say, “We bear witness that you are truly Allah’s Messenger.” Allah knows you are His Messenger, but Allah also bears witness that the hypocrites are liars. 63:1

They use their oaths as a shield and turn others away from Allah’s path. What a wretched thing they do. 63:2

That is because they believed, then disbelieved, so their hearts were sealed, and they cannot understand. 63:3

When you see them, their appearance impresses you; and when they speak, you listen attentively. But they are like hollow logs propped up, thinking every shout is against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. May Allah curse them; how deluded they are. 63:4

When it is said to them, “Come, the Messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you,” they turn their heads away, and you see them arrogantly turning aside. 63:5

It is the same whether you ask forgiveness for them or not; Allah will never forgive them. Truly, Allah does not guide the rebellious. 63:6

They are the ones who say, “Do not spend on those with the Messenger of Allah until they abandon him.” But to Allah belong the treasures of the heavens and the earth, yet the hypocrites do not understand. 63:7

They say, “If we return to Medina, the more honoured will surely expel the more humble.” But honour belongs to Allah, His Messenger, and the believers, yet the hypocrites do not know. 63:8

Do not let their words distress you. All power belongs to Allah. 10:65

Satan enticed

Those who turn back after guidance has been made clear to them, Satan has enticed them and prolonged false hopes for them. 47:25

That is because they said to those who detest what Allah revealed, “We will obey you in some matters.” But Allah knows their secrets. 47:26

Reproaching Hypocrites

The hypocrites and those with sickness in their hearts said, “Their faith has deceived them.” 8:49

The hypocrites fear that a revelation will expose what is in their hearts. Say, “Mock if you wish, Allah will bring to light what you fear.” 9:64

If you ask them, they will say, “We were only joking and playing.” Say, “Was it Allah, His signs, and His Messenger that you were mocking?” 9:65

Do not make excuses, you have already disbelieved after believing. If We pardon some of you, We will punish others for their wrongdoing. 9:66

The hypocrites, men and women, are alike. They enjoin evil, forbid good, and withhold generosity. They neglect Allah, so He neglects them. The hypocrites are truly rebellious. 9:67

Allah has promised the hypocrites and disbelievers the Fire of Hell, 9:68

You are like those before you; they were stronger, wealthier, and had more children. They enjoyed their share, and you enjoy yours just as they did. You indulge as they indulged. Their deeds became worthless, and they were ruined. 9:69

They swear by Allah that they did not say anything, but they did utter words of disbelief and rejected faith after embracing it. They plotted what they could not achieve. They resent that Allah and His Messenger enriched them. If they repent, it will be better for them. But if they turn away, 9:74

Tidings

Give news to the hypocrites: a painful punishment awaits them. 4:138

Never think the disbelievers can escape Allah’s reach on earth. 24:57

Do not think that those who rejoice in their misdeeds and love to be praised for what they have not done will escape punishment. 3:188

Not Similar

Is one whose heart Allah has opened to Islam, so he walks in light from his Lord, like one who is hardened? 39:22

Stirring Trouble

They say, “We obey,” but when they leave you, a group of them plots against what you have said. Allah records their schemes, so ignore them and trust in Him. 4:81

When news of security or fear reaches them, they spread it without thought. If they had referred it to the Messenger or those in authority, those who analyze matters would have understood it. 4:83

Deception

Among people are those who claim belief in Allah and the Last Day, yet they are not truly believers.  2:8

They seek to deceive Allah and the faithful, but in reality, they deceive only themselves without realizing it.  2:9

When told, 'Do not spread corruption on the earth,' they insist, 'We are only reformers!' 2:11

But truly, they are the ones causing harm, though they fail to perceive it. 2:12

When they meet the believers, they claim, 'We believe,' but when alone with their allies, they say, 'We are with you; we were only pretending.' 2:14

Turning Away

The time of people’s judgment has drawn near, yet they remain heedless, turning away. 21:1

When they are told, ‘Come to what Allah has revealed and to the Messenger,’ you see the hypocrites turn away in defiance. 4:61

Yet those who disbelieve turn away from what they are warned of. 46:3

But if they turn away, say, “I have warned you plainly. I do not know whether what you are promised is near or far.” 21:109

But if they turn away, your duty is only to deliver the message clearly. 16:82

Say, “Who can protect you from the Most Merciful by night or day?” Yet they turn away from His remembrance. 21:42

But We have brought them their reminder, yet they turn away from it. 23:71

No sign ever comes to them from their Lord without them turning away from it. 36:46

Belief in Parts

Those who reject Allah and His messengers, seeking to divide faith, believing in some while denying others, are truly misguided. 4:150

These are truly the disbelievers. 4:151

Among them are those who believe, and others who do not. 10:40

Fickle Minded

Yet they play about, lost in doubt. 44:9

So, watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke, 44:10

Enveloping the people, “This is a painful torment!” 44:11

They will cry, “Our Lord, lift the torment from us, we will surely believe!” 44:12

How will it be when disaster strikes them for what their hands have done? Then they will come to you, swearing by Allah, saying, ‘We only meant good and reconciliation.’ 4:62

Allah knows what is in their hearts, so ignore them, advise them, and speak to them in a way that reaches their souls. 4:63

And indeed, among you is one who will hold back, dragging his feet, then if hardship strikes you, he says, 'Ah, how gracious was Allah to me, that I was not there to witness their fate.'" 4:72

If fortune comes your way, they say, as if no bond ever existed between you, ‘Oh, I wish I had been with them to gain such success!’ 4:73

Man never tires of asking for good, but when adversity touches him, he despairs and loses hope. 41:49

When We grant favour to man, he turns away and distances himself, but when hardship touches him, he is full of prayers. 41:51

Among people are those who say, “We believe in Allah,” but when they are harmed for His sake, they equate people’s persecution with Allah’s punishment. Yet if help comes from your Lord, they say, “We were with you all along.” Does Allah not know what is in the hearts of all people? 29:10

Allah will surely distinguish the believers and expose the hypocrites. 29:11

When hardship touches a person, he calls upon Us. But when We grant him a favour, he says, "I received this because of my knowledge." No, it is only a test, though most do not realize. 39:49

Those before them said the same, yet what they earned did not benefit them. 39:50

You will see the wrongdoers fearful of what they have earned, and it will inevitably befall them. 42:22

Indeed, the human being was created anxious, 70:19

When touched by hardship, fretful, 70:20

And when touched by good, withholding, 70:21

The wrongdoers will soon know what fate awaits them. 26:227

The consequences of their deeds came upon them, and the wrongdoers among them will face the same. They cannot escape. 39:51

Yet if they turn away, We did not send you as a guardian over them. Your duty is only to convey. When We let man taste mercy, he rejoices in it, but when hardship befalls him due to his own actions, he despairs. 42:48

When hardship touches people, they call upon their Lord, turning to Him. But when He grants them mercy, some of them associate others with Him, 30:33

Denying what We have given them. So, enjoy yourselves for a while, you will soon know. 30:34

When We grant people mercy, they rejoice in it. But when hardship strikes because of what their hands have done, they despair. 30:36

Have they not seen that Allah extends provision to whom He wills and restricts it? 30:37

Mosque of Harm

There are those who built a mosque to spread harm, disbelief, and division among the believers, as a base for those who previously opposed Allah and His Messenger. They swear, “We only intended good,” but Allah bears witness that they are liars. 9:107

Deceiving Allah

Those who wait for your downfall, if victory comes to you, they claim allegiance; but if the disbelievers succeed, they say, “Did we not side with you?” Allah will judge between you all on the Day of Resurrection, and He will never grant the disbelievers power over the believers. 4:141

The hypocrites seek to deceive Allah, but He turns their deception against them. When they stand for prayer, they do so lazily, only to be seen by others, remembering Allah but little. 4:142

They waver between belief and disbelief, belonging neither here nor there. 4:143

Two Groups

Why do you divide into two groups regarding the hypocrites? Allah has cast them back for what they have earned. 4:88

Not Believers

Thus, your Lord’s decree is fulfilled against the rebellious; they will not believe. 10:33

Fighting

Except for those who seek refuge with a people bound to you by a treaty, or those who come to you with hearts unwilling to fight either you or their own people. Had Allah willed, He could have empowered them against you, and they would have fought you. So, if they withdraw, refuse to fight, and offer peace, then Allah does not permit you to harm them. 4:90

Punish

Surely, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of Hell, and you will find no helper for them. 4:145

We offered the Trust to the heavens, the earth, and the mountains, but they shrank from bearing it, fearful of its weight. Yet humanity took it on, truly, they are ever prone to wrongdoing and ignorance. 33:72

So that Allah may punish the hypocrites, men and women, and the idolaters, men and women, and turn in mercy to the believers, men and women. 33:73

Hypocrites Massacred

If the hypocrites, those with diseased hearts, and the agitators in Medina do not desist, We will stir you against them, and they will not remain in the city much longer. 33:60

They will be cursed, wherever they are found, they will be seized and put to an end. 33:61

Unbelievers

Signs

Those before them also denied, and how terrible was My response. 67:18

Do they not see the birds above them, spreading and folding their wings? None holds them up except the Most Merciful. He sees all things. 67:19

Who is it that can be your army to help you besides the Most Merciful? The disbelievers are only deluded. 67:20

Who is it that can provide for you if He withholds His provision? Yet they persist in arrogance and aversion. 67:21

Is one who walks facedown more rightly guided, or one who walks upright on a straight path? 67:22

Say, “He is the One who brought you into being, gave you hearing, sight, and hearts. Yet you are rarely grateful.” 67:23

Say, “He is the One who scattered you across the earth, and to Him you will be gathered.” 67:24

They say, “When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?” 67:25

Say, “Knowledge of it is with Allah alone. I am only a clear warner.” 67:26

But when they see it drawing near, the faces of those who disbelieved will be stricken with despair, and it will be said, “This is what you were calling for.” 67:27

Or

Or do they say, “He is a poet, we await some misfortune to befall him”? 52:30

Is it their minds that urge them to this, or are they a people gone astray? 52:32

Were they created from nothing? Or are they their own creators? 52:35

Or did they create the heavens and the earth? No, they are not certain. 52:36

Or do they possess the treasuries of your Lord? Or are they in control? 52:37

Or do they have a ladder to climb up and listen? Then let their listener bring a clear proof. 52:38

Or do you ask them for a payment, so they are burdened by debt? 52:40

Or do they have knowledge of the unseen, which they write down? 52:41

Or do they intend a scheme? But those who disbelieve are themselves ensnared. 52:42

Even if they saw pieces of the sky falling, they would say, “Clouds heaped up!” 52:44

Scorners and Mockers

Woe to every slanderer and mocker, 104:1

Who hoards wealth and counts it, 104:2

Thinking his wealth will make him immortal. 104:3

No! He will be thrown into the Crusher. 104:4

And what will make you understand the Crusher? 104:5

The fire of Allah, blazing fiercely, 104:6

That engulfs hearts. 104:7

It will be sealed upon them, 104:8

In towering columns. 104:9

Indeed, humanity is in loss, 103:2

Wrongdoers

As for those who disbelieve and obstruct others from Allah’s path and from the Sacred Mosque, which We made for all people, whether resident or visitor, and who seek to violate it with wrongdoing. 22:25

Those who disbelieve and block others from Allah’s path, He renders their deeds void. 47:1

The disbelievers are the true wrongdoers. 2:254

That is because the disbelievers follow falsehood, while the believers follow the truth from their Lord. Thus does Allah lay out comparisons for people. 47:3

Whoever disbelieves, his disbelief is against him. 30:44, 35:39

Say to those who do not believe, “Act as you will, and we will act as well.” 11:121

He is the One who made you successors on earth. So, whoever disbelieves, their disbelief is against themselves. The disbelief of the disbelievers only increases their Lord’s wrath. 35:39

But the wrongdoers will have no helpers. 2:270

Converting Muslims

If they gain the upper hand over you, they will be your enemies, reaching out with hands and tongues to harm you. They wish you would disbelieve. 60:2

Fathers

They did not value Allah as He deserves when they said, “Allah has sent nothing down to any human.” Say, “Who then sent down the Book that Moses brought, a light and guidance for people? You display it while concealing much of it. You were taught what neither you nor your forefathers knew.” Say, “Allah sent it down.” Then leave them to their empty arguments. 6:91, 22:74

The disbelievers say, “When we have become dust, and our ancestors too, will we really be brought out?” 27:67

Their messengers said, “Is there any doubt about Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth? He calls you to forgive your sins and grant you respite until a set time.” But they said, “You are only humans like us, trying to turn us away from what our ancestors worshiped. Bring us clear proof.” 14:10

And when it is said to them, 'Follow what Allah has revealed,' they reply, 'We will follow what we found our forefathers doing,' even though their forefathers understood nothing and were not guided. 2:170

O believers! Do not take your fathers and brothers as allies if they prefer disbelief over faith. Whoever does so has truly strayed. 9:23

Whoever disbelieves, his disbelief is against him. And whoever does good, they are preparing for themselves, 34:44

So that He may reward those who believe and do good from His bounty. He does not love the disbelievers. 34:45

Had We willed, We could have sent a warner to every city. 25:51

He and his forces see you from where you cannot see them. 7:27

When they commit shameful acts, they say, “We found our forefathers doing this, and Allah commanded us to do so.” Say, “Allah does not command immorality. Do you say about Allah what you do not know?” 7:28

He said, “Even if I bring you better guidance than what you found your forefathers following?” They said, “We reject what you are sent with.” 43:24

So do not doubt what they worship. They follow the traditions of their ancestors, and We will give them their share without reduction. 11:109

Nor should you say, “Our ancestors associated others with Allah, and we are merely their descendants. Will You destroy us for what the misguided did?” 7:173

Spending

And when they’re told, “Give from what Allah has provided you,” the disbelievers say to the believers, “Should we feed those whom Allah could have fed if He wanted? You’re clearly misguided.” 36:47

Do they not see that Allah, who created the heavens and the earth, is capable of creating them anew? He has set a fixed time for them, beyond which there is no doubt. Yet the wrongdoers persist in denial. 17:99

Say, “If you possessed the treasures of my Lord’s mercy, you would withhold them out of fear of depletion. Man is ever stingy.” 17:100

Replaced

So, what is the matter with those who disbelieve, rushing toward you in crowds, 70:36

From the right and from the left, in groups? 70:37

Does each of them hope to enter a garden of bliss? 70:38

No indeed! We created them from what they know. 70:39

So, I swear by the Lord of the Easts and the Wests, We are fully capable 70:40

To replace them with better than them, and none can prevent Us. 70:41

Too Late

If only you could see when they are seized with terror, with no escape, and taken from a place nearby. 34:51

And they will say, “We believe in it!” But how can they reach it from such a distant place? 34:52

They already disbelieved in it before, and they cast doubt from afar. 34:53

And a barrier will be placed between them and what they desire, as was done with their kind before. They were truly in disturbing doubt. 34:54

Afraid

They swear by Allah that they are with you, but they are not. They are fearful. 9:56

If they could find refuge, a cave, or any hiding place, they would rush toward it in desperation. 9:57

Dominance

Those with whom you made a treaty, but they repeatedly break it without fear. 8:56

If you encounter them in battle, deal with them decisively so that others may take warning. 8:57

If you fear betrayal from a people, then break the treaty with them openly. 8:58

But if they intend to betray you, they have already betrayed Allah before, and He has given you power over them. 8:71

Losers

Say, “Shall we tell you who will lose the most in their deeds?” 18:103

“Those whose efforts in this world are wasted while they think they are doing good.” 18:104

Those who believe in falsehood and deny Allah, they are the true losers.” 29:52

But whoever disbelieves after that, they are truly rebellious. 24:55

Struck Ceaselessly

The disbelievers will continue to face calamities or have them descend near their homes until Allah’s promise is fulfilled, He never fails in His promise. 13:31

Numbers Who Believe

Those upon whom your Lord’s decree has been fulfilled will not believe, 10:96

Had your Lord willed, all people on earth would have believed. Will you then force people to become believers? 10:99

"Yet, most people, even when you strive for their belief, will not accept faith." 12:103

Deniers

Say, “Bring your witnesses who can testify that Allah forbade this.” If they testify, do not bear witness with them, nor follow the desires of those who reject Our signs, who do not believe in the Hereafter. 6:150

Yet the disbelievers persist in denial, 85:19

While Allah surrounds them completely. 85:20

Showing ingratitude for what We have given them. So enjoy yourselves for a while, but soon you will know. 16:55

They assign a portion of what We have provided them to gods they do not understand. By Allah, you will be questioned about your fabrications. 16:56

and to themselves whatever they desire. 16:57

They recognize Allah’s favour, yet they deny it. Most of them are ungrateful. 16:83

Prevented

Nothing prevented people from believing when guidance came to them, nor from seeking forgiveness, except that they awaited the fate of earlier nations or the arrival of punishment before them. 18:55

Nothing prevented people from believing when guidance came to them except their objection: “Has Allah sent a human as a messenger?” 17:94

Say, “Had angels walked the earth, We would have sent an angel as a messenger.” 17:95

Other Protectors

Is not sincere faith owed to Allah alone? Yet some take guardians besides Him, saying, "We worship them only to draw closer to Allah." But Allah will judge between them regarding their differences. 39:3

Whoever Allah guides is truly guided, but whoever He leaves to stray will find no protector besides Him. On the Day of Judgment, We will gather them, dragging them on their faces, blind, dumb, and deaf. Their home is Hell, and its flames will grow fiercer. 17:97

"The Day you will turn away in retreat, with no protector against Allah. 40:33

Wisdom Rejected

“And yet, warnings came to them, striking with clarity, 54:4

Warnings have come to them containing wisdom, but warnings do not benefit them. 54:5

Forgetting

Do not be like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves. They are the rebellious. 59:19

Proud

Yet those who deny the truth are lost in arrogance and discord. 38:2

When they are told, ‘Fear Allah,’ their arrogance drives them deeper into sin. 2:206

They will say, “Allah.” Say: “Then how are you so deluded?” 23:89

We have brought them the truth, but they are liars. 23:90

Made Pleasing

Thus, the deeds of the disbelievers are made appealing to them. 6:122

And so We placed leaders in every city who plotted against it. But they only scheme against themselves, though they do not realize it. 6:123

Day of Regret

And warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will be settled, though they remain heedless and unbelieving. 19:39

Polytheists

No Intersession for Family

It is not for the Prophet or the believers to seek forgiveness for the polytheists, even if they are close relatives, after it has become clear that they are destined for Hell. 9:113

Treaty Dissolved

A declaration of disavowal from Allah and His Messenger to those polytheists with whom you had treaties. 9:1

Travel freely in the land for four months, but know that you cannot escape Allah, and that He will disgrace the disbelievers. 9:2

A proclamation from Allah and His Messenger to all people on the day of the Great Pilgrimage: Allah has renounced the polytheists, and so has His Messenger. If you repent, it will be better for you. But if you turn away, know that you cannot escape Allah. And give the disbelievers news of a painful punishment. 9:3

Except for those polytheists with whom you had treaties and who have not violated them or aided anyone against you, fulfill your treaty with them until its term ends. Allah loves the righteous. 9:4

Violence

When the sacred months have passed, then fight the polytheists wherever you find them, capture them, besiege them, and lie in wait for them at every ambush. But if they repent, establish prayer, and give charity, then let them go their way. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 9:5

If any polytheist seeks your protection, grant it to him so that he may hear the words of Allah, then escort him to a place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know. 9:6

No Treaty

How can there be a treaty with Allah and His Messenger for the polytheists, except for those with whom you made a treaty at the Sacred Mosque? As long as they remain true to you, remain true to them. Allah loves the righteous. 9:7

How can they be trusted? Whenever they gain the upper hand, they respect neither kinship nor treaty. They satisfy you with words, but their hearts reject you, and most of them are corrupt. 9:8

They traded away Allah’s revelations for a cheap price, turning others away from His path. How evil is what they did! 9:9

They respect neither kinship nor treaty toward a believer. They are the true transgressors. 9:10

Conversion

But if they repent, establish prayer, and give charity, then they are your brothers in faith. We clarify the signs for those who understand. 9:11

Fight

But if they break their oaths after making a pledge and attack your religion, then fight the leaders of disbelief, they have no faith, so that they may cease. 9:12

Will you not fight a people who broke their oaths, plotted to expel the Messenger, and attacked you first? Do you fear them? Allah is more deserving of your fear if you are believers. 9:13

Fight them, Allah will punish them at your hands, disgrace them, grant you victory over them, and heal the hearts of a believing people. 9:14

He will remove the anger from their hearts. Allah accepts repentance from whomever He wills. Allah is All-Knowing, Wise. 9:15

Do you think you will be left alone without Allah distinguishing those among you who strive and take none as allies except Allah, His Messenger, and the believers? Allah is fully aware of what you do. 9:16

Not to Maintain Mosques

It is not for the polytheists to maintain Allah’s places of worship while openly disbelieving. Their deeds are worthless, and they will remain in the Fire forever. 9:17

The only ones who maintain Allah’s places of worship are those who believe in Him and the Last Day, establish prayer, give charity, and fear none but Allah. It is they who are expected to be rightly guided. 9:18

Killing Children

Lost indeed are those who, in ignorance, kill their children and forbid what Allah has provided, fabricating lies against Him. They have gone astray and are not rightly guided. 6:140

Avoid

So do not doubt what they worship. They follow the traditions of their ancestors, and We will give them their share without reduction. 11:109

Apostates

Apostates

And whoever turns away from their faith and dies in disbelief, their deeds will be worthless in this world and the Hereafter. 2:217, 3:22

That is because they detested what Allah revealed, so He made their deeds worthless. 47:9

Those who reject faith and die as disbelievers, no amount of gold, even if offered as ransom, will save them. 3:91, 5:5

How will it be when We bring forth a witness from every nation and bring you, O Prophet, as a witness over them? 4:41

O you who believe! Whoever among you turns away from this path, know that Allah will bring forth a people whom He loves and who love Him, humble with the believers, firm against the deniers, striving in His cause without fear of blame. That is Allah’s favor, granted to whom He wills. 5:54

How will Allah guide those who disbelieved after believing, having witnessed the truth and received clear signs? 3:86

Repentance

Until, when death comes to one of them, he says, “My Lord, send me back, 23:99

There will come a time when the disbelievers will wish they had submitted. 15:2

Leave them to eat, enjoy, and be deceived by false hopes; they will soon realize. 15:3

Indeed, those who disbelieve after having believed, then increase in disbelief, their repentance will never be accepted, and they are truly lost. 3:90

But repentance is not for those who persist in wrongdoing until death approaches, and they say, ‘Now I repent,’ nor for those who die in disbelief. On that Day, those who denied the truth and disobeyed the Messenger will wish the earth would swallow them. They will not be able to hide anything from Allah. 4:18

On that Day, those who denied the truth and disobeyed the Messenger will wish the earth would swallow them. They will not be able to hide anything from Allah. 4:42

When urged, 'Believe as others have believed,' they scoff, 'Should we believe as the fools do?' Indeed, they are the true fools, though they do not know it. 2:13

Say to the disbelievers: If they desist, their past will be forgiven. But if they persist, then the fate of those before them has already been sealed. 8:38

Those who Reject

Denying Signs

Yet they turn away from its wonders. 2:137, 3:23, 4:61, 5:43, 21:32, 79:28

And do not be among those who reject Allah’s signs, or you will be among the losers. 10:95

Say, "This is a momentous message." 38:67

Yet you turn away from it. 38:68

Those who deny Allah’s signs are led astray. 40:63

Upset over Disbelief

If their rejection weighs heavily on you, then if you can find a tunnel into the earth or a ladder to the sky to bring them a sign, do so! But if Allah had willed, He could have guided them all. So do not be among the ignorant. 6:35

Perhaps you will exhaust yourself with grief over them if they do not believe in this message. 18:6, 26:3

If they reject you, messengers before you were also rejected. To Allah, all matters return. 35:4

But if they disobey you, say, “I am free of what you do.” 26:216

Thus, We have made enemies for every prophet among the wicked 25:31

Whenever they bring an argument, We bring the truth and the best explanation. 25:33

Sects

As for those who divided their religion and became sects, you have nothing to do with them. Their matter rests with Allah, and He will inform them of what they did. 6:159

Deeds

Whoever does a good deed will receive tenfold, but whoever does evil will be repaid only in kind, and they will not be wronged. 6:160

Truth and Falsehood

Do not mix truth with falsehood or conceal the truth knowingly. 2:42

Avoid Deniers

If you deny, generations before you also denied. The messenger’s duty is only to deliver the message clearly. 29:18

So do not yield to those who deny the truth. 68:8

They wish you would compromise, so they would compromise. 68:9

Be patient with what they say, and part from them with dignified withdrawal. 73:10

So do not be impatient with them. We are counting their time precisely. 19:84

Leave Me to deal with the deniers, those who live in luxury, and give them a little respite. 73:11

So, wait, they too are waiting. 44:59

Test

We have adorned the earth to test which of them is best in deeds. 18:7

And We will turn all that is upon it into barren dust. 18:8

The disbelievers say, “You are not a messenger.” Say, “Allah is sufficient as a witness between me and you, and so are those who have knowledge of the Scripture.” 13:43

If only they had been content with what Allah and His Messenger gave them and said, “Allah is sufficient for us. He will grant us from His bounty, and so will His Messenger. To Allah alone we turn with hope.” 9:59

Meccans

Plotting

Remember when the disbelievers plotted against you, to imprison, kill, or expel you. They plotted, but Allah also plotted 8:30

When Our verses are recited to them, they say, “We have heard this before. If we wanted, we could say something similar. These are just ancient tales.” 8:31

They say, “O Allah, if this is truly from You, then rain down stones upon us or bring us a painful punishment.” 8:32

But Allah would not punish them while you were among them, nor would He punish them while they sought forgiveness. 8:33

Yet what prevents Him from punishing them now? They hinder others from the Sacred Mosque, though they are not its rightful guardians. Its true guardians are the righteous, but most of them do not know. 8:34

Opposing

If those who disbelieved had fought you, they would have turned and fled, finding no protector or helper. 48:22

It is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them in the valley of Mecca, after He gave you the upper hand over them. 48:24

When those who disbelieved filled their hearts with pride, the pride of ignorance, Allah sent down His tranquillity upon His Messenger and upon the believers, and bound them to the word of mindfulness, to which they were most entitled and worthy. 48:26

Quraysh

Have you seen the one who denies the Judgment? 106:1

That is the one who repels the orphan, 106:2

And does not urge feeding the poor. 106:3

So woe to those who pray, 106:4

Fruit Pickers

We tested them as We tested the owners of the garden, when they swore to harvest its fruit in the morning, 68:17

Without saying, “If Allah wills.” 68:18

So a calamity from your Lord swept over it while they slept, 68:19

And by morning, it lay barren and scorched. 68:20

They called out to one another at dawn, 68:21

“Go early to your field, if you are to reap.” 68:22

So, they set out, whispering to each other, 68:23

“Let no poor person enter it today.” 68:24

They went early, determined in their resolve. 68:25

But when they saw it, they said, “We are lost!” 68:26

“No, rather, we are deprived!” 68:27

The most reasonable among them said, “Did I not tell you to glorify Allah?” 68:28

They said, “Glory be to our Lord! We were truly wrongdoers.” 68:29

Then they turned on each other, blaming one another. 68:30

They said, “Woe to us! We were indeed arrogant.” 68:31

“Perhaps our Lord will give us something better in its place. We turn to Him in hope.” 68:32

People of Various Cities

End of Peoples

Have they not travelled the land and seen the fate of those before them? They were greater in number and strength, but nothing could protect them. 40:82

Have they not travelled the earth and seen the fate of those before them? Allah destroyed them utterly, and the same awaits the disbelievers. 47:10

We sent only men as messengers before you, revealing Our guidance to them. Have they not travelled the earth and seen the fate of those before them? 12:109

When the messengers despaired and thought they had been denied, Our help came to them. We saved whom We willed 12:110

Indeed, in their stories is a profound lesson for those of understanding. 12:111

That is because Allah is the protector of those who believe, while the disbelievers have no protector. 47:11

Allah sets forth a parable: a city once secure and prosperous, its provisions coming abundantly. But it denied Allah’s blessings, so He made it taste hunger and fear for what they used to do. 16:112

For every nation, there is a fixed term. When their time comes, they cannot delay it nor hasten it. 7:34

Resurrection

They have passed by the town upon which We sent a devastating rain, have they not seen it? Yet they do not expect resurrection. 25:40

Seized with Poverty

Whenever We sent a prophet to a town, We afflicted its people with hardship and adversity, so they might humble themselves. 7:94

Then We replaced hardship with ease, until they prospered and said, “Our forefathers also faced hardship and ease.” Then We seized them suddenly, while they were unaware. 7:95

Had the people of the towns believed and been mindful, We would have showered blessings upon them from the heavens and the earth. But they rejected the truth, so We seized them for what they had earned. 7:96

False Security

Did the people of the towns feel secure that Our punishment would not come upon them by night while they slept? 7:97

Or did they feel secure that Our punishment would not strike them by day while they played? 7:98

Did they feel safe from Allah’s plan? None feel secure from Allah’s plan except those who are truly lost. 7:99

Sealed Hearts

Has it not become clear to those who inherit the land after its former people that, if We will, We can strike them for their sins and seal their hearts so they do not hear? 7:100

We have narrated to you the stories of those before. Their messengers came to them with clear proofs, but they refused to believe in what they had rejected before. This is how We seal the hearts of the disbelievers. 7:101

Whenever they make a covenant, some among them break it, most of them do not truly believe. 2:100

We found most of them untrue to their covenants. We found most of them to be corrupt. 7:102

Allah sealed their hearts, so they do not understand. 9:93

Man of Signs

Tell them the story of the man to whom We gave Our signs, but he abandoned them. Satan pursued him, and he became one of the misguided. 7:175

Had We willed, We could have elevated him through Our signs, but he clung to the earth and followed his desires. He is like a dog, panting whether you chase it away or leave it alone. This is the example of those who reject Our signs. So, narrate the stories, so they may reflect. 7:176

How terrible is the example of those who reject Our signs and wrong themselves! 7:177

Companions of the Thicket

and the dwellers of the forest, all were confederates. 38:13

The people of the Wood denied the messengers. 26:176, 50:14

The people of the forest were also wrongdoers. 15:78

So, We took vengeance upon them, and both remain as visible examples. 15:79

So, My warning was fulfilled. 50:14

Conclusion

These are the accounts of past cities; we relate them to you. Some remain standing, while others have been completely erased. 11:100

We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. Their gods, whom they invoked besides Allah, did nothing to help them when your Lord’s command came. Instead, they only increased their ruin. 11:101

If only there had been people of wisdom among the generations before you, who could have prevented corruption in the land! But only a few among them did so, and We saved them. The wrongdoers pursued their luxuries and became guilty. 11:116

Your Lord would not unjustly destroy a city while its people were striving for righteousness. 11:117

No nation can advance its time, nor delay it. 23:43

Then We raised other generations after them. 23:42

Other People

Bedouins

The desert Arabs are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, least likely to understand the limits of what Allah has revealed to His Messenger. 9:97

Some desert Arabs consider what they spend as a burden and wait for misfortune to strike you.  9:98

Among the desert Arabs around you are hypocrites, and so are some among the people of Medina. They persist in hypocrisy, you do not know them, but We do. 9:101

The Bedouins said, “We believe.” Say: You have not yet believed. Rather, say, “We have submitted,” for faith has not yet entered your hearts. 49:14

Say: Are you teaching Allah about your faith, when Allah knows all that is in the heavens and the earth? 49:16

The Byzantines

The Romans have been defeated, 30:2

In a nearby land. But after their defeat, they will triumph, 30:3

Within a few years. The matter belongs to Allah, before and after. And on that day, the believers will rejoice, 30:4

In Allah’s victory. He grants triumph to whom He wills. 30:5

Fighting

It was not you who killed them, but Allah. And when you struck, it was not you who struck, but Allah, so that He may grant the believers a great victory. 8:17

This is how Allah undermines the schemes of the disbelievers. 8:18

If you sought judgment, then judgment has come to you. If you desist, it is better for you. But if you return to battle, We will return, and your forces, no matter how great, will not benefit you. Allah is with the believers. 8:19

Perhaps Allah will bring affection between you and those you now consider enemies. 60:7

Allah does not forbid you from being kind and just to those who did not fight you over religion or expel you from your homes from dealing kindly and justly with them. Allah loves those who act justly. 60:8

But Allah forbids you from taking as allies those who fought you over religion, expelled you, or supported your expulsion. Whoever takes them as allies, they are the wrongdoers. 60:9

Tribe of Saba

There was indeed a sign for the people of Sheba in their homeland: two gardens, one to the right and one to the left. “Eat from your Lord’s provision and give thanks, a good land and a forgiving Lord.” 34:15

But they turned away, so We sent upon them a flood from the dam, and replaced their gardens with ones bearing bitter fruit, tamarisks, and a few sparse lote trees. 34:16

Thus, We repaid them for their ingratitude. Do We repay any but the ungrateful? 34:17

We placed between them and the towns We had blessed, well-known settlements, and We set measured stages between them: “Travel safely by night and day.” 34:18

But they said, “Our Lord, make the distances between our journeys longer,” and they wronged themselves. So We made them stories of the past and scattered them completely. Surely in this are signs for every steadfast, grateful heart. 34:19

Pharaoh and Others

And Pharaoh, and those before him, and the overturned cities, they all committed grave sin. 69:9

They defied the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with an overwhelming grip. 69:10

Pharaoh

But Pharaoh defied the messenger, so We seized him with a crushing grip. 73:16

So how will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, against a Day that will turn children grey? 73:17

The sky will split apart from its burden. That promise is bound to be fulfilled. 73:18

Criminals

Did We not destroy the earlier generations? 77:16

Then We followed them with later ones. 77:17

This is how We deal with the guilty. 77:18

Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth. 77:19, 77:24

We sent a messenger to every nation: “Worship Allah and avoid false gods.” Some were guided, while others deserved misguidance. So, travel the earth and see the fate of the deniers. 16:36

Say, “Travel the earth and observe the fate of those who denied the truth.” 6:11

Companions of the Trench

Doomed are the makers of the trench, 85:4

The fire fed with fuel, 85:5

As they sat beside it, 85:6

Watching what they did to the believers. 85:7

They resented them for nothing, except that they believed in Allah, the Almighty, the Praiseworthy, 85:8

Companions of the Elephant

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with the people of the elephant? 105:1

Did He not foil their plans? 105:2

He sent against them flocks of birds, 105:3

Pelting them with stones of baked clay, 105:4

Leaving them like devoured stalks. 105:5

Day of Conquest

If you were to see how We send rain upon the barren earth, reviving it, surely, He will bring the dead to life. He has power over all things. 32:27

But they say, “When will this judgment come, if you are truthful?” 32:28

Say, “On the Day of Judgment, belief will not benefit the disbelievers, nor will they be granted reprieve.” 32:29

So, turn away from them and wait, surely, they too are waiting. 32:30

Various Peoples

Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad, 89:6

The people of Iram, with towering pillars, 89:7

The likes of which were never built in the land? 89:8

And Thamud, who carved their dwellings into the valley? 89:9

And Pharaoh, lord of mighty structures? 89:10

They all transgressed in the lands, 89:11

Spreading corruption far and wide. 89:12

So your Lord unleashed upon them a scourge of punishment. 89:13

Indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 89:14

As for man, when his Lord tests him, honouring him and granting him ease, he says, “My Lord has honoured me.” 89:15

But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says, “My Lord has humiliated me.” 89:16

No! You do not honour the orphan, 89:17

Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor. 89:18

You greedily consume inheritance, 89:19

And love wealth with an obsessive love. 89:20

Doomed

Unaware

Yet man transgresses, 96:6

Seeing himself as self-sufficient. 96:7

But to your Lord is the return. 96:8

Have you seen the one who prevents, 96:9

A servant when he prays? 96:10

Do you think he is rightly guided, 96:11

Or calls to righteousness? 96:12

Do you see how he denies and turns away? 96:13

Does he not know that Allah sees? 96:14

No! If he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 96:15

A lying, sinful forelock! 96:16

Let him call his supporters, 96:17

We will summon the guardians. 96:18

No! Do not obey him. Bow down and draw near. 96:19

When they are told, “Bow before the Most Merciful,” they say, “What is the Most Merciful? Should we bow to what you command?” And it only increases their defiance. 25:60

Not Succeed

The wrongdoers will never succeed. 6:21, 6:135, 10:17, 23:117

Those who deny the truth, their wealth and children will not avail them against Allah. 3:10

Like the fate of Pharaoh’s people and those before them, they rejected Our signs, so Allah seized them for their sins. 3:11

Do not Grieve

Say, “Travel the earth and see the fate of the guilty.” 27:69

But do not grieve over them, nor be distressed by their schemes. 27:70

They say, “When will this promise be fulfilled, if you are truthful?” 27:71

Say, “Perhaps some of what you seek to hasten is already near.” 27:72

Do not strain your eyes toward what We have given some of them to enjoy, nor grieve over them. Lower your wing to the believers. 15:88

Sealed Heart

Some among them listen to you, but We have placed veils over their hearts and deafness in their ears, so they cannot comprehend. Even if they saw every sign, they would still not believe. 6:25

Who is more unjust than one who is reminded of his Lord’s signs but turns away, forgetting what his hands have done? We have placed veils over their hearts so they cannot understand, and deafness in their ears. Even if you call them to guidance, they will never be guided. 18:57

"Those who dispute Allah’s signs without proof, this is deeply hateful to Allah and the believers. Thus, Allah seals the hearts of every arrogant tyrant." 40:35

Those who dispute Allah’s signs without proof have arrogance in their hearts. So seek shelter in Allah, for He alone hears all, sees all. 40:56

Allah has sealed their hearts and ears, and a veil covers their sight; 2:7

We cover their hearts so they cannot understand it, and We make their ears deaf. When you mention your Lord alone in the Quran, they turn away in disgust. 17:46

You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear your call when they turn away. 27:80

Your Allah is One. But those who deny the Hereafter, their hearts reject, and they are arrogant. 16:22

Wherever you may be, death will reach you, even if you are in fortified towers. When good comes to them, they say, ‘This is from Allah,’ but when harm befalls them, they say, ‘This is from you.’ Say, ‘All things come from Allah.’ What is wrong with these people that they barely understand anything? 4:78

Have they not travelled the land and had hearts to reason with, or ears to hear with? It is not the eyes that go blind, but the hearts within the chests. 22:46

Their hearts harbour a disease, and Allah increases their affliction. 2:10

Or do those with sickness in their hearts think Allah will not expose their malice? 47:29

But as for those with sickness in their hearts, it only adds to their defilement, and they die as disbelievers. 9:125

Do they not see that they are tested once or twice every year? Yet they neither repent nor take heed. 9:126

Had We willed, We could have shown them to you, and you would know them by their marks. But you will surely know them by their tone of speech. Allah knows your deeds. 47:30

Most of the earlier generations were like that. 37:71

Thus, We let disbelief take root in the hearts of the guilty. 15:12

Thus, Allah seals the hearts of those who do not know. 30:59

They do not believe in it, though the fate of earlier nations has already passed. 15:13

Even if We opened for them a gateway to the heavens, allowing them to ascend continuously, 15:14

They would still say, “Our eyes are hallucinating; we are bewitched.” 15:15

Do not obey one whose heart We have made heedless of Our remembrance, who follows his desires, and whose affairs are in ruin. 18:28

Say, “Whoever is in error, let the Most Merciful extend his time until, when they see what they were promised, either punishment or the Hour, they will know who is in the worse position and weaker in support.” 19:75

Have you seen the one who rejects Our signs and says, “I will surely be given wealth and children”? 19:77

Let not the disbelievers think that their extended time is good for them; it only increases their burden. 3:178

And when We told you, “Your Lord encompasses all people,” We made the vision We showed you a trial for them, as well as the cursed tree in the Quran. We warn them, but it only increases their defiance. 17:60

They say, “Our hearts are veiled from what you call us to, our ears are deaf, and between us and you is a barrier, so do as you will, and we shall do as we will.” 41:5

Deaf, Dumb, and Blind

Say, “I warn you only by revelation.” But the deaf do not hear the call when warned. 21:45

Can you make the deaf hear, or guide the blind and those lost in clear error? 43:40

Even if We take you away, We will still take vengeance upon them. 43:41

But for those who disbelieve, there is deafness in their ears, and it is obscured from them. They are called from a distant place.” 41:44

Do not be like those who say, “We hear,” but do not truly listen. 8:21

Their punishment will be doubled, for they could neither hear nor see. 11:20

The worst of creatures in Allah’s sight are the deaf and dumb, those who do not use reason. 8:22

Had Allah found any good in them, He would have made them hear. But even if He made them hear, they would still turn away in defiance. 8:23

Some among them listen to you, but can you make the deaf hear when they do not understand? 10:42

Others look at you, but can you guide the blind when they refuse to see? 10:43

Your Lord will fully repay each person for their deeds; He is aware of all they do. 11:111

The example of these two groups is like the blind and deaf compared to those who see and hear. Are they equal? Will you not reflect? 11:24

Do those who commit evil think We will make them equal to those who believe and do good, equal in life and in death? How wrong is their judgment! 45:21

You cannot make the dead hear, nor can you make the deaf hear your call when they turn away. 30:52

Deaf, mute, and blind, they will never return to the truth. 2:18

Pointless to Warn

Do the disbelievers not see that the heavens and the earth were once joined, and We split them apart? And We made every living thing from water, will they not believe? 21:30

If you call them to guidance, they do not follow you. It is the same whether you call them or remain silent. 7:193

Those you invoke besides Allah are servants like you, so call upon them and let them respond, if you are truthful. 7:194

Even if We had mercy on them and removed their hardship, they would still persist in their rebellion, wandering blindly. 23:75

If you call them to guidance, they do not hear. You see them looking at you, but they do not perceive. 7:198

We turn their hearts and eyes away, just as they refused to believe in the first place, leaving them to wander blindly in their defiance. 6:110

Have you considered, if We let them enjoy life for years, 26:205

Then the punishment comes upon them, 26:206

What good will their past enjoyment do them? 26:207

For those who respond to their Lord is the best reward. But those who do not respond, if they possessed all the treasures of the earth, they would offer them as ransom. For them is a severe reckoning 13:18

Have they not considered the wonders of the heavens and the earth, and all that Allah has created? Perhaps their end is near, so in what message will they believe after this? 7:185

As for those who reject faith, it makes no difference whether you warn them or not, they will never believe.  2:6, 36:10

When hardship touches a person, they call upon Us, lying down, sitting, or standing. But when We remove their hardship, they continue as if they had never called upon Us for relief. This is how the deeds of the transgressors seem fair to them. 10:12

He is the One who enables you to travel across land and sea. When you sail with a favourable wind, rejoicing in it, suddenly a storm overtakes you, and waves engulf you from all sides. You call upon Allah in sincere devotion, saying, “If You save us, we will surely be grateful.” 10:22

When We grant blessings to man, he turns away and distances himself, but when hardship touches him, he is full of despair. 17:83

Allah made the night for you to rest and the day to see clearly. Indeed, Allah is full of bounty, but most people are ungrateful. 40:61

If We grant a person mercy and then withdraw it, they become desperate and ungrateful. 11:9

But if We grant them prosperity after hardship, they say, “Troubles have left me,” and they become boastful and proud. 11:10

Judgement

The Horn

A sign for them is that We carried their ancestors in the loaded ship. 36:41

And We created for them similar vessels to ride. 36:42

If We willed, We could drown them, then no one would hear their cries, nor would they be saved, 36:43

Except by mercy from Us and as a temporary enjoyment. 36:44

Yet when they’re told, “Be mindful of what lies ahead and behind you, so you may receive mercy,” they turn away. 36:45

And they say, “When will this promise come true, if you’re truthful?” 36:48

They await only a single blast, from which there is no return. 38:15

They await nothing but a single blast that will seize them while they argue. 36:49

Then they won’t be able to make a will, nor return to their families. 36:50

Then the Trumpet will be blown, and suddenly, they will rise from their graves, rushing toward their Lord. 36:51

They will cry, “Woe to us! Who has raised us from our resting place?” This is what the Merciful promised, and the messengers spoke the truth. 36:52

It will be but a single blast, and suddenly, they will all be brought before Us. 36:53

Today, no soul will be wronged in the least. You will only be repaid for what you used to do. 36:54

So I may do good in what I left behind.” Never! It is only a word he speaks. And behind them is a barrier until the Day they are raised. 23:100

When the Trumpet is blown, there will be no ties between them that day, and they will not ask about one another. 23:101

But the disbelievers will remain in doubt until the Hour overtakes them suddenly, or the punishment of a barren Day descends upon them. 22:55

On the Day when We raise a witness from every nation, the disbelievers will not be allowed to plead or make amends. 16:84

Resurrected

Yet these people say, 44:34

“There is nothing but our first death; we will not be resurrected. 44:35

Bring back our ancestors, if you are truthful.” 44:36

And the disbeliever says, “When I die, will I be brought back to life?” 19:66

Does man not remember that We created him before, when he was nothing? 19:67

We created them only with truth, but most of them do not know. 44:39

Thus will you be resurrected. 43:11

They marvel that a warner has come from among them. The disbelievers say, “This is a strange thing!” 50:2

“When we are dead and turned to dust, shall we be brought back? That would be a far return indeed.” 50:3

We know what the earth consumes of them, and with Us is a preserving record. 50:4

But they called the truth a lie when it came to them, so they are in confusion. 50:5

When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, will we really be raised again? 37:16

And our forefathers, too?” 37:17

Say: “Yes indeed, and you will be humbled.” 37:18

It will only take one blast, and suddenly, they will be staring. 37:19

They say, “When we are bones and dust, will we truly be resurrected?” 17:49, 17:98

Say, “Even if you were stone or iron.” 17:50

Or even something greater in your thoughts! Yet they will ask, “Who will bring us back?” Say, “The One who created you the first time.” Then they will shake their heads at you and say, “When will that be?” Say, “Perhaps it is near.” 17:51

On the Day He calls you, you will respond with praise, thinking you had only stayed a short while. 17:52

So, they will deny you in what you say, and you can neither avert nor help. 25:19

But they say what the ancients said: 23:81

“When we die and become dust and bones, will we really be resurrected? 23:82

They will say, “To Allah.” Say: “Then will you not remember?” 23:85

They will say, “Allah.” Say: “Then will you not be mindful?” 23:87

They say, “Will we really be restored to our former state? 79:10

Even after we have become decayed bones?” 79:11

They say, “Then this would be a losing return!” 79:12

But it will only take one blast, 79:13

And suddenly, they will be awake. 79:14

Then He caused him to die and be buried. 80:21

Then, when He wills, He will resurrect him. 80:22

But no! He has not fulfilled what He was commanded. 80:23

The disbelievers say, “Shall we show you a man who claims that once you are completely disintegrated, you will be raised anew?” 34:7

They are lifeless, not living, and they do not know when they will be resurrected. 16:21

Those who disbelieve claim they will not be resurrected. Say, “Yes indeed, by my Lord, you will be resurrected, then informed of what you did. 64:7

He strikes up arguments about Us, forgetting his own creation. He says, “Who will bring bones back to life after they’ve decayed?” 36:78

Say: “The One who created them the first time will bring them back. He knows every kind of creation.” 36:79

He is the One who made fire for you from green trees, so you kindle flames from them. 36:80

Is not the One who created the heavens and the earth able to create the likes of them again? 36:81

Worst of Creatures

The worst of creatures in Allah’s sight are the deaf and dumb, those who do not use reason. 8:22

The worst of creatures in Allah’s sight are those who reject faith and will not believe. 8:55

But those who disbelieve among the People of the Book and the idolaters will dwell in the Fire of Hell, remaining there forever. They are the worst of creation. 98:6

Kill Yourselves

If We had commanded them, ‘Sacrifice yourselves or leave your homes,’ only a few would have obeyed. Yet if they had done what they were instructed, it would have been better for them and strengthened their faith. 4:66

Kill Them

You will find others who wish to be at peace with you and their own people, yet whenever they are drawn into conflict, they plunge into it. If they do not withdraw, offer peace, or restrain their aggression, then seize them wherever you find them. 4:91

Liars

Do people think they will be left to say, “We believe,” without being tested? 29:2

We certainly tested those before them, and Allah will surely distinguish the truthful from the liars. 29:3

Or do those who commit evil think they can escape Us? How misguided they are! 29:4

Whoever strives, strives only for himself. Allah is independent of all creation. 29:6

Record of Wrongs

But the one who is given his record in his left hand will say, “Oh, I wish I had never received my record!” 69:25

“And never knew what my account was!” 69:26

“Would that it had been the end of me!” 69:27

“My wealth has been of no use to me.” 69:28

“My power has vanished from me.” 69:29

Seize him and shackle him. 69:30

Then cast him into the blazing fire. 69:31

Then bind him in a chain seventy cubits long. 69:32

For he did not believe in Allah, 69:33

Nor did he encourage feeding the poor. 69:34

Record

The record will be placed, and you will see the guilty fearful of what is in it. They will say, “Woe to us! What kind of book is this? It leaves nothing, small or great, without recording it!” They will find everything they did present before them, and your Lord does not wrong anyone. 18:49

Disbeliever

Shall We treat those who believe and do good like those who spread corruption? Shall they be equal? 38:28

If you disbelieve, Allah has no need of you, yet He does not approve of ingratitude from His servants. 39:7

Pharaoh

The people of Pharaoh denied the warnings. 54:41

Are your disbelievers better than those? Or are you exempt from punishment? 54:43

Or do they say, “We are a strong alliance”? 54:44

The alliance will be defeated, and they will turn and flee. 54:45

We destroyed your kind before, so is there any who will take heed? 54:51

Everything they did is recorded, 54:52

And every small and great matter is written. 54:53

Unbelief

For he once lived among his people in arrogance, 84:13

Thinking he would never return. 84:14

Indeed, his Lord was always watching him. 84:15

I swear by the glow of sunset, 84:16

You will surely move from stage to stage. 84:19

So why do they not believe? 84:20

Judgement Day

On the Day when the sky will be like molten brass, 70:8

And the mountains like tufts of wool, 70:9

No close friend will ask about a friend, 70:10

Though they will be shown to one another, the guilty will wish to ransom himself from the torment of that Day, with his children 70:11

His spouse and his brother, 70:12

His family who sheltered him, 70:13

And everyone on earth, if it could save him. 70:14

But no! It is a blazing fire, 70:15

Peeling away the scalp, 70:16

Calling those who turned their backs and walked away, 70:17

Who hoarded and withheld. 70:18

Trumpet

When the trumpet is sounded, 74:8

That Day will be a day of anguish, 74:9

Not easy for the disbelievers. 74:10

Leave Me to deal with the one I created alone, 74:11

To whom I gave vast wealth, 74:12

And sons always near him, 74:13

And made life smooth and easy for him, 74:14

Yet he still desires more. 74:15

Judged

Shall We treat those who submit like those who are corrupt? 68:35

What is wrong with you? How do you judge? 68:36

Or do you have a scripture you study, 68:37

That grants you whatever you choose? 68:38

Or do you have binding oaths from Us, lasting until the Day of Resurrection, that you will have whatever you decide? 68:39

Ask them which of them can guarantee that? 68:40

Or do they have partners? Then let them bring their partners, if they are truthful. 68:41

On the Day when the shin is laid bare, and they are called to bow, but they cannot. 68:42

Faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer, and whoever carries wrongdoing will be doomed. 20:111

Their eyes will be downcast, humiliation covering them. They were called to bow when they were sound. 68:43

So, leave Me to those who reject this message. We will draw them in gradually, from where they do not know. 68:44

And I will give them time. My plan is firm. 68:45

Or do you ask them for a payment, so they feel burdened by debt? 68:46

Or do they have knowledge of the unseen, which they write down? 68:47

On that Day, people will emerge in scattered groups to see the results of their deeds. 99:6

And whoever has done an atom’s weight of evil will see it. 99:8

But as for the one who hoards and feels self-sufficient, 92:8

And denies what is best, 92:9

We will ease his way to hardship. 92:10

Do they seek the judgment of ignorance? Yet who is more just than Allah for those who hold firm in faith? 5:50

Surely your Lord will judge between them by His wisdom. 27:78

Hell

Return to Allah

But whoever turns away and disbelieves, 88:23

Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 88:24

To Us is their return, 88:25

Then upon Us rests their reckoning. 88:26

Questioned

To whoever wills to move forward or hold back. 74:37

Every soul is held in pledge for what it has earned, 74:38

Except the people of the right, 74:39

In gardens, asking one another 74:40

About the guilty: 74:41

So, no intercession will benefit them now. 74:48

Then what is the matter with them, turning away from the reminder 74:49

As if they were startled donkeys 74:50

Fleeing from a lion? 74:51

Each one of them wants to be given scrolls unrolled. 74:52

No! They do not fear the Hereafter. 74:53

Do you make your denial your sustenance? 56:82

Then, when the soul reaches the throat, 56:83

And you watch helplessly, 56:84

Then why, if you truly believe you won’t be held to account? 56:86

Then bring the soul back, if you are truthful. 56:87

Hellbound

Say to the disbelievers: ‘You will be defeated and gathered into Hell, what a dreadful resting place!’ 3:12

My only duty is to deliver what I receive from Allah and His messages.” 72:23

When they see what they were promised, they will know who is weaker in helpers and fewer in number. 72:24

They say, ‘The Fire will only touch us for a few days.’ But they deceive themselves in their own beliefs. 3:24

True sovereignty that Day belongs to the Most Merciful, and it will be a difficult day for the disbelievers. 25:26

Hellfire

And Hell will be displayed to the misguided. 26:91

And it will be said to them, “Where are those you used to worship, 26:92

Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?” 26:93

Then they will be hurled into it, they and the misguided, 26:94

And the soldiers of Iblis, all together. 26:95

As they dispute within it, they will say, 26:96

Surely, the hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of Hell, and you will find no helper for them. 4:145

Woe

When the soul reaches the collarbones, 75:26

And it is said, “Who can save him now?” 75:27

And he realizes it is the moment of parting, 75:28

And one leg is wrapped over the other, 75:29

To your Lord, that Day, is the procession. 75:30

He neither believed nor prayed, 75:31

But denied and turned away, 75:32

Then walked back to his people with pride. 75:33

Woe to you, and again, woe! 75:34

Yes, woe to you, and again, woe! 75:35

Does the human think he will be left without purpose? 75:36

A painful punishment awaits them for their falsehood. 2:10

Woe on that Day to the deniers, 52:11, 77:19, 77:24, 77:15, 77:28, 77:34, 77:37, 77:40, 77:45, 77:47, 77:49, 83:10

Woe to every sinful liar, 45:7

Woe to those who associate others with Him. 41:6

Woe to them for the Fire! 38:27

Woe to the disbelievers on the Day they are promised. 51:60

Woe to every slanderer and mocker, 104:1

Woe to those whose hearts are sealed against remembering Allah; they are in clear error. 39:22

So, woe to those who write the Scripture with their own hands and then say, 'This is from Allah,' seeking a small gain. Woe to them for what their hands have written, and woe to them for what they earn. 2:79, 2:174, 3:77

So, woe to those who pray, 107:4

Yet are heedless of their prayers, 107:5

Woe to those who cheat in trade, 83:1

Who demand full measure when they receive, 83:2

But short-change others when they give. 83:3

Do they not realize they will be resurrected, 83:4

But those gifted with knowledge said, “Woe to you! 28:80

Shackles

The word has proven true against most of them; they do not believe. 36:7

We’ve placed shackles around their necks, up to their chins, so their heads are forced upward. 36:8

And We’ve set a barrier before them and behind them, covering them, so they cannot see. 36:9

Prophet Killers

Those who reject Allah’s signs and unjustly kill the prophets and those who call for justice, give them news of a painful punishment. 3:21

Taghut

But those who disbelieve have false guardians who lead them from light into darkness. 2:257

Disbelievers fight for falsehood. 4:76

Allies of Devils

Some He has guided, while others deserve misguidance. They took devils as allies instead of Allah, thinking they were rightly guided. 7:30

Dispute

Then on the Day of Resurrection, you will dispute before your Lord. 39:31

Resurrection

On the Day when Allah resurrects them all, He will inform them of what they did. He has kept account, though they may have forgotten. 58:6
