Past Messengers

We revealed the Book to clarify all things. 16:89

Clear Signs

But it is clear signs in the hearts of those gifted with knowledge. 29:49
Clear Revelations
We have sent down clear revelations 58:5, 65:11

Clear Arabic
We know they say, “A human teaches him.” But the one they refer to speaks a foreign tongue, while this is clear Arabic. 16:103, 19:97, 26:195, 41:3

Had We made it a non-Arabic Quran, they would have said, “Why are its verses unclear? An Arabic message for an Arab people?” Say, “It is guidance and healing for those who believe. 41:44

We have made it easy in your tongue, so that they may take heed. 44:58

Clear Book
This is a clear Book whose verses are perfected and then fully explained by Allah. 2:2, 2:185, 3:138, 5:15, 6:55, 6:114, 7:32, 7:52, 10:61, 11:1, 11:6, 12:1, 15:1, 26:2, 27:1, 28:2, 36:69, 43:2, 44:2

Clear Verses
When Our clear verses are recited to them, the disbelievers say to the believers, “Which of the two groups has a better position and status?” 19:73, 45:25

Clear verses for believers
Thus does Allah make His signs/commands clear to people, so that they may become mindful/reflect/understand/be guided/grateful/take heed/return for those who comprehend. 2:187, 2:219, 2:221, 2:242, 2:266, 3:103, 3:118, 4:91, 5:89, 6:98, 6:105, 6:126, 7:174, 10:15, 10:24, 22:16, 24:1, 24:18, 24:46, 24:58, 24:59, 24:61, 29:49, 30:28, 45:25, 46:7, 57:9, 58:5, 65:11

Clear and unclear verses
He is the One who sent down the Book, containing verses that are clear and foundational, while others are allegorical. Those with deviant hearts pursue the allegorical, seeking discord and hidden meanings. But none knows their true interpretation except Allah. 3:7

Clear Religion
O People of the Book! Our Messenger has come to you after a long gap in messengers, lest you say, “No one came to us as a bearer of good news or warning.” Now, a bearer of good news and a warner has come to you. Allah has power over all things. 5:19
​
Clear Proof/Truth
Say, “I stand upon clear proof/truth from my Lord, yet you reject it. The judgment is with Allah alone. He declares the truth. 6:57, 6:157, 8:6, 10:15, 11:17, 47:14, 98:1, 98:4
​
Clear Delivery
But if you turn away, know that the Messenger’s duty is only to deliver the message clearly. 5:92, 24:54, 29:18, 64:12
​
Clear Guidance
Do not be like those who divided and differed after receiving clear guidance. 3:105
​
If you falter after clear guidance has come to you, then know that Allah is Almighty. 2:209
​
But whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has been made clear and follows a path other than that of the believers, We will leave them to their chosen path and cast them into Hell, what a miserable destination! 4:115
​
Clear Proofs
Allah desires to make things clear for you, guide you to the ways of those before you, and accept your repentance. 2:185, 4:26, 4:176
​
Yet none disputed it except those who had received it, after clear proofs had come to them, out of jealousy. 2:213
​
We have sent down clear signs, and none reject them except the defiantly rebellious. 2:99, 3:183, 4:174
​
Surely, those who conceal the clear proofs and guidance We have revealed, after We have made them known to humanity in the Book, Allah curses them, and so do all who curse. 2:159, 5:15

Clear Record
There is nothing hidden in the heavens or the earth except that it is in a clear record. 27:75, 36:12

Had We made it a non-Arabic Quran, they would have said, “Why are its verses unclear? An Arabic message for an Arab people?” Say, “It is guidance and healing for those who believe. 41:44

Shall I seek a judge other than Allah, when it is He who has sent down the Book in truth? Those to whom We gave the Scripture know it has been sent down from your Lord in truth, so do not be among the doubters. 6:114

Why should you not eat of what Allah has made lawful for you, when He has clearly explained what He has forbidden, except in cases of necessity? Many lead others astray by their desires, without knowledge. But your Lord knows best those who transgress. 6:119

Recited in Stages
The disbelievers say, “Why was the Qur’an not sent down all at once?” We revealed it gradually to strengthen your heart, and We recited it in stages. 25:32
​
Easily remembered
And We have made the Quran easy to remember, so is there any who will take heed? 54:17, 54:22, 54:32, 54:40
​
Recite what you can of the Quran. He knows there will be among you those who are ill, others traveling through the land seeking Allah’s bounty, and others fighting in Allah’s cause. So, recite what you can of it. 73:20
​
Wise Reminder
This is what We recite to you of Our signs and the wise reminder. 3:58
​
It is nothing but a reminder for all worlds." 12:104
​
Unknowable Meaning
Others (verses) are allegorical. Those with deviant hearts pursue the allegorical, seeking discord and hidden meanings. But no one knows their true interpretation except Allah. 3:7

Attributes
Mother of Books
And it is inscribed with Us in the Mother of the Book. 43:4
​
Allah erases or confirms what He wills, and with Him is the Master Record. 13:39

No Doubt
This is the Book, without doubt, a guide for those mindful of Allah. 2:2, 32:2

Honorific
These are the verses of the Book, full of wisdom. 10:1, 31:2, 43:4

That this is a noble Quran, 56:77

Had We made it a non-Arabic Quran, they would have said, “Why are its verses unclear? An Arabic message for an Arab people?” Say, “It is guidance and healing for those who believe. 41:44

Sent Down
Truth
These are the signs of the Book. What has been sent down to you from your Lord is the truth, yet most people refuse to believe. 13:1
​
We sent down the Quran with truth, and with truth it descended. 17:105, 39:2, 39:41, 42:17
​
"And you will surely know its truth after a time." 38:88
​
And it is the absolute truth. 69:51
​
Various
We have sent down to you a Book in which is your reminder, will you not understand? 21:10
​
Indeed, this is a reminder for those who are mindful. 69:48
​
But Allah Himself bears witness to what He has revealed to you, He sent it down with full knowledge. 4:166
​
A Quran We have divided, so you may recite it gradually to the people. We revealed it in stages. 17:106, 76:23
​
Had Allah expanded provision for all His servants, they would have become reckless. Instead, He grants in measure as He wills. 42:27
​
We send down the Quran as healing and mercy for the believers, but it only increases the wrongdoers in loss. 17:82

Angels
Say, “The Holy Spirit has brought it down from your Lord with truth, to strengthen the believers and as guidance and good news for those who submit.” 16:102

Say, 'Whoever opposes Gabriel should know that he brings revelation by Allah’s command. 2:97

He sent it down with full knowledge, and the angels also testify. 4:166

Ramadan
The month of Ramadan is when the Quran was revealed 2:185

We sent it down on the Night of Destiny. 97:1

And what will make you understand the Night of Destiny? 97:2

The Night of Destiny is better than a thousand months. 97:3

The angels and the Spirit descend in it, by the permission of their Lord, carrying every decree. 97:4

Peace it is, until the break of dawn. 97:5

We sent it down in a night of decisive unfolding, surely, We are ever warning. 44:3

In that night, every wise command is made distinct, 44:4

A decree from Us, We are ever sending 44:5

As a mercy from your Lord. 44:6

Satan
When you recite the Quran, seek refuge in Allah from Satan, the accursed. 16:98

Devils
Nor is this the word of a cursed devil. 81:25

So where are you headed? 81:26

The devils did not bring down this revelation. 26:210

It does not suit them, nor could they have done so. 26:211

They are barred from even listening. 26:212
​
Purpose
These Verses
These are Allah’s signs, which We recite to you in truth. You are indeed one of the messengers. 2:252, 3:108, 4:105
​
Sent
Just as We sent among you a messenger from your own people, reciting Our revelations, purifying you, teaching you the Book and wisdom, and instructing you in what you did not know. 2:151
​
Detailed Explanation
Then We gave Moses the Book, complete for those who do good, explaining everything, a guidance and mercy, so they may believe in the meeting with their Lord. 6:154
​
This Quran could not have been fabricated; it is a confirmation of what came before and a detailed explanation of the Book. There is no doubt, it is from the Lord of all worlds. 10:37, 12:111
​
Teachings
Allah has revealed the Book and wisdom to you and taught you what you did not know. His favour upon you is immense. 4:113
​
Indeed, in their stories is a profound lesson for those of understanding. 12:111
​
For Judging
We have revealed the Book to you in truth, confirming what came before and safeguarding it. So, judge among them by what Allah has revealed 2:176, 3:3, 4:105, 5:48, 5:49, 6:114, 42:17
​
Straight
A guide, warning of severe punishment from Him and bringing good news to the believers who do righteous deeds, that they will have an excellent reward. 18:2
​
True Recital
Those who have received the Scripture and recite it as it should be recited, these are the ones who truly believe in it. 2:121
​
Guidance and Mercy
Now a clear proof has come to you from your Lord, a guidance and mercy for those who believe. 6:157, 7:52, 7:203, 10:57, 12:111, 16:64, 16:89, 27:77, 28:43, 31:3, 45:20, 92:12
​
We revealed the Book to clarify all things, a guide, mercy, and good news for those who submit. 16:89, 27:77, 31:3
​
This is a Book We have revealed to you so that, by your Lord’s permission, you may lead people from darkness into light, to the path of the Almighty. 14:1, 57:9, 65:11
​
But you will not will, for those who seek the straight path. 81:28
​
This Quran guides to what is most upright and gives good news to the believers who do righteous deeds, that they will have a great reward. 17:9
​
Whoever follows guidance does so for his own benefit, and whoever goes astray does so to his own loss. 39:41
​
To be Announced
O Messenger! Convey all that has been revealed to you from your Lord. If you do not, then you have not fulfilled your mission. 5:67
​
Message
Say, “What testimony is the greatest?” Say, “Allah is Witness between you and me. This Quran has been revealed to me so that I may warn you and whomever it reaches. Do you truly testify that there are other gods besides Allah?” Say, “I do not testify to that.” Say, “He is the One and Only God, and I am free from your associations.” 6:19
​
Date Revealed
The month of Ramadan is when the Quran was revealed. 2:185
​
Abrogation
We do not abrogate or cause any verse to be forgotten without replacing it with something better or similar. 2:106
When We replace one verse with another, Allah knows best what He reveals; they say, “You are merely a fabricator.” But most of them do not understand. 16:101
​
Reminder
It is nothing but a reminder for all worlds. 12:104, 38:87, 81:27
​
No! This is truly a reminder. 74:54, 80:11
​
This is a reminder, so let whoever wills take a path to their Lord. 73:19
​
Let whoever wills take heed. 74:55, 80:12
​
But they will not remember unless Allah wills. He is worthy of reverence and worthy of granting forgiveness. 74:56
​
Is it not enough for them that We have sent down to you the Book, which is recited to them? In it is mercy and a reminder for those who believe. 29:51
​
A Light
A light and a clear Book have come from Allah. 5:15
​
Through it, Allah guides those who seek His pleasure to paths of peace, bringing them from darkness into light by His will. 5:16
​
Is one who possesses a clear proof from his Lord, supported by a witness from Him, and preceded by the Book of Moses, a guide and mercy, like one who rejects it? Those who believe in it will find truth. 11:17
​
Those who are faithful to Allah will have ranks of honour with Him. 3:163
​
Notification
This is a message for humanity, to warn them, to make them realize that He is the One Allah. 14:52
​
Surely in this is a message for a people who worship. 21:106
​
Mountain
If We had sent this Quran down upon a mountain, you would have seen it humbled and shattered from awe of Allah. These are the parables We set forth for people so they may reflect. 59:21
​
​Disbelief in the Quran
Unimpressive
When Our verses are recited to them, they say, “We have heard this before. If we wanted, we could say something similar. 8:31
​
Legends
And when they are asked, “What has your Lord sent down?” They say, “Ancient myths, he wrote them down, dictated to him morning and evening.” 6:25, 8:31, 16:24, 23:83, 25:5, 27:68, 46:17, 68:15, 83:13
​
Invented
Or do they say, “He made it up”? Say, “Then produce a chapter like it and call upon anyone you can besides Allah, if you are truthful.” 10:38
​
Or do they say, “He invented it”? Say, “Then produce ten chapters like it, and call upon anyone you can besides Allah, if you are truthful.” 11:13
​
Yet they say, “These are confused dreams! No, he has fabricated them! No, he is a poet! Let him bring us a sign like those sent before.” 21:5
​
Or do they say, “He made it up”? Say, “If I have fabricated it, then my sin is upon me, but I am free of your wrongdoing.” 11:35
​
Yet they say, “He made it up.” No, it is the truth from your Lord, sent to warn a people who had no warner before you, so they may be guided. 32:3
​
Or do they say: He has fabricated lies about Allah? If Allah so willed, He could seal your heart. 42:24
​
Or do they say, “He invented it”? Say: If I have fabricated it, you have no power to protect me from Allah. 46:8
​
When Our clear signs are recited to them, they say, “This is only a man who wants to turn you away from what your ancestors worshipped.” And they say, “This is nothing but a fabricated lie.” 34:43
​
The disbelievers say, “This is nothing but a fabrication he made up, with others helping him.” 25:4
​
He’s just a man inventing lies about Allah; we won’t believe him.” 23:38
​
Never Invented
This Qur’an is not a fabricated tale, 12:111
​
Assisted
The disbelievers say, “This is nothing but a fabrication he made up, with others helping him.” They have committed injustice and falsehood. 25:4
​
Human Origin
This is nothing but human speech.” 74:25
​
We know they say, “A human teaches him.” 16:103
​
Your companion has not strayed, nor has he erred. 53:2
​
He does not speak from whim. 53:3
​
It is nothing but revelation sent down. 53:4
​
Taught to him by one of immense power, 53:5
​
Firm in might, he rose to his true form, 53:6
​
Rejected
We know that their words grieve you, but it is not you they reject; it is Allah’s signs that the wrongdoers deny. 6:33

Ridiculed
It has already been revealed to you in the Book: when you hear Allah’s signs being denied and mocked, do not sit with those who do so unless they turn to another topic 4:140
​
Punishment
Those who reject Allah’s signs will face a severe punishment 3:4
​
Moses and Magic
We granted Moses nine clear signs, ask the Children of Israel. When he came to them, Pharaoh said, “Moses, I think you are bewitched.” 17:101, 51:39
​
When the truth came to them from Us, they said, “This is clear sorcery.” 10:76, 27:13, 28:36, 40:24
​
Moses said, “Do you call the truth sorcery when it has come to you? Is this sorcery? Sorcerers never succeed.” 10:77
​
Jesus and Magic
When Allah will say, “O Jesus, son of Mary, I shielded you from the harm of the Children of Israel when you came to them with clear signs, yet the disbelievers among them said, ‘This is nothing but sorcery.’ 5:110
​
And when Jesus, son of Mary, said, “O Children of Israel, I am Allah’s messenger to you, confirming the Torah before me and bringing good news of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad.” But when he came to them with clear signs, they said, “This is obvious sorcery.” 61:6
​
Quran and Magic
Even if We had sent down a Book on parchment, and they touched it with their own hands, the disbelievers would still say, “This is nothing but sorcery.” 6:7
​
Is it surprising to people that We sent revelation to a man among them, saying, “Warn humanity and give good news to the believers that they stand firm with their Lord”? Yet the disbelievers say, “This is clearly sorcery.” 10:2
​
Yet if you say, “You will be resurrected after death,” the disbelievers will say, “This is nothing but sorcery.” 11:7
​
We know best what they listen to when they secretly conspire, the wrongdoers say, “You follow only a bewitched man.” 17:47
​
Yet if they see a sign, they turn away and say, “Continuous magic.” 54:2
​
Even if We opened for them a gateway to the heavens, allowing them to ascend continuously, 15:14
​
They would still say, “Our eyes are hallucinating; we are bewitched.” 15:15
​
Likewise, no messenger came to those before them but they said, “A sorcerer or a madman.” 51:52
​
And the disbelievers say of the truth when it comes to them, “This is nothing but obvious magic.” 34:43, 37:14, 37:15, 38:4, 43:30, 46:7, 74:24
​
The Day they are shoved into the Fire of Hell with force: 52:13
​
“This is the Fire you used to deny. 52:14
​
Is this magic? Or do you still not see? 52:15
​​
Allah and the Quran
Praise
Praise be to Allah, who sent down the Book to His servant, ensuring it contains no distortion. 18:1
​
Authored by Allah
Do they not reflect on the Quran? If it were from anyone other than Allah, they would have found many contradictions in it. 4:82, 10:37
​
Nor is this the word of a cursed devil. 81:25
​
But Allah Himself bears witness to what He has revealed to you, He sent it down with full knowledge 4:166
​
A revelation from the Almighty. 36:5, 40:2, 41:2, 41:42, 45:2, 56:80
​
The revelation of this Book is from Allah. 39:1, 46:2, 55:2, 65:10
​
And this is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds. 26:192
​
A revelation from the One who created the earth and the high heavens. 20:4

A messenger from Allah, reciting purified scriptures, 98:2
​
Containing upright teachings. 98:3

These are Allah’s verses, which We recite to you in truth. 45:6

Believe
So, believe in Allah, His Messenger, and the light We have sent down. 64:8

Shall I seek a judge other than Allah, when it is He who has sent down the Book in truth? 6:114

Say, “If the sea were ink for my Lord’s words, it would run dry before His words were exhausted, even if We added another sea to it.” 18:109
​
Muhammad and the Quran
Former Messengers
Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, “Bring your proof. This is the message of those with me and those before me.” But most of them do not know the truth, so they turn away. 21:24
​
These are Allah’s signs, which We recite to you in truth. You are indeed one of the messengers. 2:252, 3:108
​
Just as We sent among you a messenger from your own people, reciting Our revelations, purifying you, teaching you the Book and wisdom, and instructing you in what you did not know. 2:151
​
Allah has granted His favour to the believers when He sent them a messenger from among themselves—reciting His verses, purifying them, and teaching them the Book and wisdom, though they were previously in clear error. 3:164
​
Former Scriptures
And it is foretold in the scriptures of earlier peoples. 26:196

Then He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 53:10

Thus, We inspired you with a revelation by Our command. 42:52

Thus, We narrate to you stories from the past. We have given you a reminder from Us. 20:99

Inheritance
Then We passed the Book to those We chose among Our servants. Some wrong themselves, some are moderate, and some race ahead in good deeds by Allah’s permission. That is the great favour. 35:32

Warning
This Quran has been revealed to me so that I may warn you and whomever it reaches. 6:19

Yet they say, “He made it up.” No, it is the truth from your Lord, sent to warn a people who had no warner before you, so they may be guided. 32:3

Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion to His servant, so that he may be a warner to the world. 25:1

The Trustworthy Spirit has brought it down, 26:193

Upon your heart, so that you may be one of the warners. 26:194

Is it surprising to people that We sent revelation to a man among them, saying, “Warn humanity and give good news to the believers that they stand firm with their Lord”? 10:2

No Knowledge
You did not know what the Book was, nor faith, but We made it a light by which We guide whomever We will among Our servants. 42:52
​
We did not teach him poetry, nor does it suit him. This is only a Reminder and a clear Qur’an. 36:69
​
To warn whoever is truly alive, and to prove the word against the disbelievers. 36:70

Not False
You did not recite any scripture before this, nor did you write it with your hand; otherwise, the sceptics would have doubted. 29:48

Function
O Messenger! Convey all that has been revealed to you from your Lord. If you do not, then you have not fulfilled your mission. Allah will protect you from the people. 5:67
​
No Haste
Exalted is Allah, the True King! Do not rush in reciting the Quran before its revelation is completed, but say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.” 20:114, 75:16
​
Collection and Clarification
It is for Us to gather it and recite it. 75:17
​
Then it is for Us to explain it clearly. 75:19
​
Noble
But no! I swear by what you see. 69:38
​
And what you do not see. 69:39
​
This is truly the word of a noble messenger. 69:40, 81:19
​
Judge
We have revealed the Book to you with truth so that you may judge between people as Allah has shown you. 4:105
​
Stay Strong
He who imposed the Qur’an upon you will surely bring you to the best destination. Say, “My Lord knows best who brings guidance and who is clearly astray.” 28:85
​
You never expected that the Book would be delivered to you, it is only a mercy from your Lord. So do not be an ally to the disbelievers. 28:86
​
And never let them turn you away from Allah’s signs after they have been revealed to you. Call upon your Lord, and never be among the polytheists. 28:87
​
We have revealed the Book to you in truth, confirming what came before and safeguarding it. So, judge among them by what Allah has revealed, and do not follow their desires, straying from the truth. To each of you, We have given a path and a way. 5:48
​
Mercy
We have revealed the Book to you only to clarify their disputes, as guidance and mercy for those who believe. 16:64
​
If not for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you, a group among them would have led you astray. But they only mislead themselves, and they cannot harm you. Allah has revealed the Book and wisdom to you and taught you what you did not know. His favour upon you is immense. 4:113
​
Recite
Recite what has been revealed to you from your Lord’s Book. 18:27, 29:45
​
Or a little more, and recite the Quran with measured rhythm. 73:4
​
We are about to place upon you a weighty word. 73:5
​
Truly, night prayer leaves a deeper imprint and is more upright in speech. 73:6
​
Don’t Oppose
But whoever opposes the Messenger after guidance has been made clear and follows a path other than that of the believers, We will leave them to their chosen path and cast them into Hell, what a miserable destination! 4:115
​
Those who disbelieve and block others from Allah’s path and oppose the Messenger after guidance has become clear to them, they will not harm Allah in the least, and He will render their deeds void. 47:32
​
This is because they opposed Allah and His Messenger. Whoever opposes Allah and His Messenger, Allah is severe in punishment. 8:13
​
Not Distressed
This is a Book revealed to you, let there be no unease in your heart because of it, so that you may warn and remind the believers. 7:2
​
Do Away With
If We willed, We could take away what We revealed to you, and then you would find no protector against Us. 17:86
​
But it is only by your Lord’s mercy that it remains. His favour upon you is truly great. 17:87
​
Saddened
We know that their words grieve you, but it is not you they reject; it is Allah’s signs that the wrongdoers deny. 6:33
​
We did not send down the Quran to burden you. 20:2
​
But as a reminder for those who are mindful. 20:3
​
Greeting
When those who believe in Our signs come to you, say, “Peace be upon you. 6:54
​
Instructions for the Quran
Follow
O humanity! A lesson has come to you from your Lord, a healing for what is in the hearts, guidance, and mercy for the believers. 10:57
​
Follow what has been sent down to you from your Lord 7:3
​
Believe
Believe in what I have sent down, confirming what is already with you. Do not be the first to reject it 2:41, 3:81, 4:47, 5:48, 46:12, 46:30
​
A chapter We have sent down and made its rulings binding. 24:1
​
We have given you seven oft-repeated verses and the glorious Quran. 15:87
​
These are Allah’s signs, which We recite to you in truth. You are indeed one of the messengers. 2:252
​
We have sent down to you clear signs and examples from those before you, and advice for the mindful. 24:34
​
But whoever rejects Allah’s signs, Allah is swift in reckoning. 3:19
​
Studied
Thus, We clarify the signs, so they may say, “You have studied this. 6:105
​
Lest you say, “The Book was only sent to two groups before us, and we were unaware of their teachings.” 6:156
​
Sold
They traded away Allah’s revelations for a cheap price, turning others away from His path. How evil is what they did! 9:9
​
So, woe to those who write the Scripture with their own hands and then say, 'This is from Allah,' seeking a small gain. Woe to them for what their hands have written, and woe to them for what they earn. 2:79, 3:187
​
Do not trade My revelations for a fleeting gain. 2:41, 3:199, 5:44, 16:95
​
Indeed, those who conceal what Allah has revealed in the Book and trade it for a small price consume nothing but fire in their bellies. Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He purify them, and they will face a painful punishment. 2:174
​
Those who trade Allah’s covenant and their oaths for a fleeting gain will have no share in the Hereafter. Allah will neither speak to them nor look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He purify them. They will face a painful punishment. 3:77

Unbelievers and the Quran
Disagreement
What are they asking one another about? 78:1

Just as We sent punishment upon those who divided the Scripture, 15:90

In Jest
Do not take Allah’s revelations lightly. 2:231

Partition
When you recite the Quran, We place an invisible barrier between you and those who do not believe in the Hereafter. 17:45

Alter It
When Our clear verses are recited to them, those who do not expect to meet Us say, “Bring a different Quran or change it.” Say, “It is not for me to change it on my own. I only follow what is revealed to me. 10:15
